Perks: one week later

Some say perks raised the skill ceiling for all. Some say it made weaker heroes more viable.

Some say they pick perks based on situation, not meta. They pick dps perks when winning and added hp when constantly dying.

I think perks made the game exciting again and added a layer of strategizing.

What do you think of perks one week in?

Same as the Season 9 changes and passives.

I don’t like them because it overcomplicates the game and creates greater imbalance since the strength of perks widely vary from hero to hero.

I love them, I just don’t think we need the progression aspect of them. Let us equip and switch in spawn room instead of mid fight. The unlock process is almost useless and I’d like to be able to switch perks when countered rather than switch heroes so yeah let them be switchable.

I would like them if I could mess with them before a match. I hate messing with them during it. It feels awful and needs to go.

I think seeing the blue perk bar (below my name) filling up adds to the anticipation and excitement.

I practice perks on practice range (by filling up ult with the capsule), so I don’t mind having to choose in the middle of the match, since I’m familiar already.

I’ve been enjoying them a lot, they don’t excessively change the game but do add an interesting decision to make on how to play your character

And trying to equip them mid match is so clunky and they are distracting.

Dragon Fury makes Hanzo viable :3

Perks don’t quite hit for me.

  • Not everyone gets cool perks.
  • I feel that majors take too long to get online. I didn’t enjoy last season much and, well, a large chunk of each match is season fourteen.
  • Some perks are awkward in that they change a character’s kit, but in a way you’d really want at the very start and not only towards the end (Orisa barrier, Reaper RMB).

Still, I think it’s neat, and there’s ways to address all of those. We’ll have to see how quickly they move to make changes.

I look forward to Stadium.

I think they have been fun and increase the variety of heroes. Especially in pro play, watching some of those games and so many different heroes were being played. Often both teams only had 1-2 of the same heroes.

I think they’re fine. I haven’t really noticed a drastic difference in overall match or hero quality, except some meta shifts with some goofy compositions.

It isn’t enough to bring old players back or entice new players, but might fill the void for current players for at least a few more months as they’re just happy they’ve finally gotten new content that isn’t just cosmetics.

I tried it for a bit. My initial reaction was “oh this is cool”, then continued to play exactly how I usually would, because the gameplay hasn’t shifted much at all.

its funny since i kind of stopped playing the game a bit but thats because im real bored or am playing marvel rivals. still i have played a bit and i think its the same thing?

i just wonder… do you think the game became even more snowballish with perks? you think steamrolls happen a bit more often with the perk system?

i havnt played enough or dont play 24/7 to really know (i think i havnt played in 3 days actually)

Teams that are already dominating will dominate further, because they get their perk levels faster. That’s what I have noticed.

probably i kind of wish instead of getting perks by damage or something like that it should all be a timed thing

like all players/heroes in the game get perks after a 3 minute or whatever time system. still i think 3 minutes is too fast maybe 5 minutes but yea certain games in quickplay dont even last 5 minutes if stomp heh

Unnecessary bloat that doesn’t help game

Perk quality across the roster is highly erratic in terms of both power and intrigue. It’s partly fixable, but if they really want to diversify hero gameplay with the system, we need more perk options per grade.

The leveling system is a bad idea and should be scrapped in favor of perks being unlocked at the start of the match. Major perks come online too slowly and frankly, it’s a needless source of snowballing.

I don’t like perks, but I do agree. It feels awkward and unintuitive to suddenly be able to do things you weren’t before in the middle/last stretch of the match. I tend to forget I even have some of my perks, with probs the most egregious example being Juno’s crits. Some heroes have dead perks you’d never want to use anyway.

I’ve definitely had matches where no one on my team was able to unlock a perk… which seems… kind of… converse to the point of perks?

some of them are entertaining, others didn’t change the game enough. I feel like the unbalance became more extreme and I don’t like that much the part that recharge the perk with time, adds a psychological effect of not wanting to swap when you should.

And still, the perks as a way to alleviate counters don’t work enough, as you can start without being countered, get the perk you want and after that being countered and not being able to swap the perk.

I think I’m waiting more for them to balance the perks or change the ones that are useless, but knowing the team in the last year, this is going to be waiting at least 6 months.

I think that’s more to do with them having bans, but I’m sure it does add some layer to it
