Once these things come out, We really should be able to see
- how often each perk is chosen
- Hero ban rates
- Map pick rates
I really think it’s fair for us to know which perks truly are useless, which heroes have counterplay issues, and which maps are unpopular

More stats in general would be great. OverBuff was absolutely wrecked by private profiles. Official stats on hero winrates, what heroes get played most, what game modes are most snowball-y, all kinds of stuff. Instead of this brick wall we run into.

I do love muh stats. I’d also like to have more stats in my weekly performance they keep emailing me.

Even after private profiles overbuff remained quite accurate for much of its history. Random sampling is a very legitimate means of obtaining fairly accurate data - and over buff was no exception. You’d never want to go “but this character has EXACTLY a 55.6% win rate!” Or anything like that - but the website was very good at demonstrating overall current states as well as trends. If a character was top of the board for pick rate, it’s very likely they were the most pick hero on actual stats blizzard side, for example.
The website is in shambles now, of course- and we won’t know how far off it actually is unless we ever see some stats from blizzard,
But it was fine for much of overwatches history, even with private profiles in mind.

And it’s a shame too because I like stats. It sucks that our only real source is circling the drain.
And this is definitely correct. The issues Overbuff has now are deeper.
I do wish we had official stats. And honestly it really would be nice to have info on perk selection, map votes, and hero bans to the OP’s point. How often specific heroes are banned would be nice to know.
With hero bans Overbuff will be deemed useless. It will be impossible to have a notion of confidence there
The maze experiment only yields useful data if you don’t tell the rabbit where the exit is
It would be nice if Overwatch was more transparent with stats, I wanna see actual stats and not something from a different group whos info might not be accurate.
That would assume that Blizzard doesn’t falsify statistics, but that’s exactly what they already did with the 2-2-2 test! At least, I can’t explain any other reason why they compared the 2-2-2 playtime to the overall QP playtime, which is higher than the QP playtime at the time of the test.
The alternative would be that Blizzard is simply too dumb to read statistics!
I wouldn’t necessarily say statistics were falsified there, so much as key information was omitted from that blog post. Such as how much the other modes dropped while 6v6 was there, we only heard how much the other modes were played when 6v6 wasn’t available.
But your point is taken for sure, lying by omission isn’t much better than offering straight up false information.
Having an official page for hero stats would be incredible. It would make Lumin’s stats even better and more insightful than they already are.
Simplest thing in the short-term would be for Blizz to take over Overbuff and populate it with actual stats.
we need perks removed, why we care about stats? what we can do with that info? perks are and will be bad always
More thorough stats would be great but unfortunately Blizzard is terrified of the idea of public facing statistics. Its a miracle we have any kind of stats in the game at all.
