Not only they discourage adapting your hero picks to the situation and the needs of your team, something that people are already hardly doing those days despite hero swapping being basically the core idea of the game.
But the already strongest heroes (specially DPS) got the strongest perks, which in turn means there is even less of a reason to not default to a Godscan like Tracer, Ashe and Sojourn because they get basically everything.
Perks as they are right now clash horribly with what the gameās core is. Stop giving less of a reason for popular DPS hero mains to never have to swap out of their comfort picks. To never learn more about the rest of the ga=me because their beloved godscans can stat check everyone into submission anyways.
A big reason why OW is failing as a game is that everything is getting stale and rotting away even if covered in pretty cosmetic glitter.
Players are constantly discouraged from learning and understanding new heroes while being rewarded for onetricking overpowered heroes and punished for doing anything else.
Maps are being slightly reworked because people dont want to admit Widow needs a rework. More rot.
And with perks, hero balance is now at an all time low, despite the devsā cherrypicked stats. Those āāthe rich get the richerāā patches are absurd at this point.
Perks, bans, stadium, etc dont matter at all if you cant admit and fix the problems with the gameplay and balance. This is just getting people hyped for a while until the next big thing, but it wont fix OW in the long run.
What, you mean to tell me Torbjornās meme perk of repairing armour isnāt on the same level as Sojourn being able to one-tap 300HP targets with Mercy boost in her ult?
Itās amazing how last season was the return of Sojourn meta and literally no one was excited for it
So Blizzard decided to one-up themselves by making this season pocket-Sojourn meta
Truly peak game design
I donāt think sheāll get the blame this time around.
Sojourn can still one-tap 250 targets without Mercy pocket, Weaver and McCree at 275 are just barely above the threshold to survive.
You can still counter-swap, but the earlier you do this, the more quickly your pick can level up perks to increase value. Best of all, all previously earned hero specific perks are retained, so you can swap off that hero and come back to it later without any perks lost, if necessary.
The biggest benefit perks add is character progression ā the more time or performance you invest in the character, the better the benefits.
They normally switch if Iām clicking heads as Widow.
If you spam āhave you tried my meatballsā when throwing them out, it increases those packs buffing power. Maybe. So I heard. I think. But only just a little. Sojourn still wins.
They did miss an opportunity by not having him throw actual meatballsā¦IMHO.
They couldāve actually made the ability useful whilst still maintaining the meme part of it.
Let him give armour to everyone by whacking them with the hammer
Why would I need to counterswap in the first place when I can just pick a broken godscan with the best perks and compete with less effort? Just ignore the perk level penalty and pick the overpowered generalists that very rarely need to swap.
In all seriousness, I did notice that the low-aim, high return value characters like DVA, Moira, Lucio, Junkrat, Winston, etc. are less effective now that these perks are mixing up the meta.
But on Torbjorn and Sombra I can pad my stats healing Reinhardt. Sojourn canāt do that, she just obliterates players. So itās totally fair /s
I donāt think we can blame Mercy on this. Her perks are restrictive compared to what other supports got, especially Anaās.
Like Iām glad Reaper can get his soul gobstoppers back and Orisa can deploy a barrier, but why canāt they give Doomfist uppercut or Symmetra her shield generator? Feels like a half of these are missed opportunities, should be part of the base kits already (like Lifeweavers cleanse) or just adding more power creep creating a greater divide.
