Make alllll heroes DPS characters with a bit of tanking or healing flavour here and there. Some would need major adjustments, but most would work fairly well with their current theme/identity.
There’d be no need for role lock. No need for separate queues.
I know it sounds radical. But actually, that seems to be what the devs want.
Opportunities for EVERY SINGLE HERO to carry. Cool Twitch highlights and MAUs coming out their eyeballs, and investor $$$s.
Try an ExC, Blizzard, where it’s JUST DPS and a handful of the tanks and supports that DPS well, like Hog, Lucio, Bap, and Zen.
One tank is going to be hell. But NO TANKS might actually be good!
But give reason for most people to play it, as market seems to go with dps mostly because bigger group to make money off. Therefore if 1-2-2 will not fix q times, we can expect another cut, and so on until all dps is reality.
Oh I understand why it makes sense, and it really does make sense for them to do it. DPS is the most popular role by far, so why not just make the game exclusively cater to the majority? I am just saying personally all my motivation to play will be gone
I don’t know if it does make sense. If Overwatch did actually go all DPS route then there’s absolutely zero reason to play it over Apex, or Valorant. Both of which do the FPS with hero abilities thing with significantly better gunplay.
If there are only DPS, who is going to do damage though?
Are we just going to get stuck with 5 people trying to shoot 5 other people, missing every shot and never contesting the payload?
overwatch does have good gunplay. actually better than apex, the guns dont feel that great until they are fully upgraded which they wont be most of the time
ashe has top tier gunplay that compares well with any game on the market, really shows what ow can do on heroes where they want gunplay to shine
valorant is ok, but not the best gun play ive seen. it feels weird to stop while shooting. tbh cod is better
Personally all my motivation is all ready gone. I haven’t played the game once since they announced 5v5.
However since Blizzard is all ready making the game better for dps players, why not just let everyone play dps all ready. Why not just take the tanks and the healers out and let people play the fast paced game they really want?
I mean these changes don’t look good for supports or tanks. Are they giving Support more damage tools to deal with dps? or will they just continue to be a target.
At this point, I don’t see the point in all this. If you want an FPS game with the least amount of team work possible, take out the easy AOE one shots and make us aim more. Nope The one shots and other over the top abilities are still in the game.
So whats the point?
For DPS players to have a target and to feel powerful. The other roles are for people more concerned with winning the game than having fun with it.
We all wanted to have fun. Those of us more supportive of our team are the one’s not getting the fun now and I’d rather DPS than be someone’s plaything.
Seems - being the key word here. What made overwatch big when it launched was that it WASN’T your average generic shooter. I’m a support player but I used to play tons of tank as well and enjoyed it. The devs have - sorry to say this - engineered the tanks and supports to be worse in order to steer the game towards a new vision…generic shooter.
I’m not really the biggest Stylosa fan but he posted a poll a few days ago asking people whether they were for or against 5v5. The results were almost 50 / 50 I think it was 50 / 48, with that kind of polarization I’d not be so quick to suggest people prefer dps as opposed to people prefer dps over what tanks and supports have become.
I suspect the reason they are killing tanks and supports off with a thousand cuts is they know if they straight up removed both the roles instantly the backlash would be very visible.
Also I think they are hoping us doofus tank and support players will purchase the sandbox they created for us to play in (OW2 - PVE) and therefore they keep customer and get to change the game to yet another shooter.
