Even after the immensely beneficial power shift that configuration artillery received in season one, people still claim the ultimate to be the worst in the damage role, or at least one of the bottom three. Truth be told though those buffs were massive and people just genuinely don’t understand the value that the ultimate brings.
The ultimate can kill enemies but that’s not the main intent. It’s a zoning ultimate, not unlike dragon strike or dva bomb. I see basically every bastion pop their ults and find the first target they can and immediately spam fire all three shots in the same location. Unless the target has immediately found your location and it’s in self defense, this is not how the ultimate is used effectively. You should look at the enemy composition before even using it, and determine which hero you’re going to target. Which of them has the least/no mobility, those should be your targets. Ana, Zenyatta, another Bastion are all good examples of targets you should be looking for. Heroes like Mercy, Kiriko, or Ball will simply leave the area with relative ease and should not be targeted unless there’s literally nothing else nearby.
Really just had to say it because people still seem to say it’s hot garbage when while it’s admittedly not incredible, it absolutely has uses especially in overtime but people literally use it incorrectly constantly
Tldr: stop spamming all three artillery shells in one location, try to zone or trap targets with them individually. They’re easy to walk out of so you can trick them from running away from one only to walk into another
Oh and a fun fact, Bastion’s ult can be damage boosted. A lot of people seem to still not know this.
As a Zen sage, I can tell you that most Bastion players, as bad as they are, definitely understand to target me. Too bad I have a pocket Kiriko or they might have gotten their first ever kill with it. RIP
We are a slowly learning and evolving race. I’m just trying to hasten the process because too often do I see my omnic brethren misuse their own ultimates
Sometimes people can be delusional. They are so set upon using tools in ways they think is correct. When really its wrong and the person might not always ahve the foresight to see where they are making mistakes.
Want and need are two separate concepts. He was only trying to help because he witnessed a Bastion Brother try to kill me with his ultimate as Hog. If you saw such tragedy, perhaps you would wish to speak of it as well.
I also usually find myself being targeted with it as zen, but I play soloQ, so no pocket for me. It gets me sometimes, but you can still dodge it, even if they target you with all 3.
Watching them target people like hog who has breather or a wrecking ball genuinely makes me cringe. It’s such a bad misuse I’d prefer if they didn’t ult at all
It probably is pretty good if you put in the time to learn to use it effectively, but I don’t care, configuration tank was more fun and I’m gonna complain about my cool toy being thrown in the trash rather than play with the new one I didn’t ask for.
Oh, and forget about the bastions using it correctly. I’ve still seen some Dvas recently that didnt know they could dm it, or tried to dm it by targeting the bastion.
I like using it in a specific rythm:
1–2,3
First shot makes them react/burn an ability the rapid 2 afterwards secure squishy elim or inflict heavy damage.
That’s valid, tank mode would be a lot more viable in ow2 with less barriers around, for sure. I think that the hero’s silhouette would be confusing when transformed though because it wouldn’t be immediately easy to tell if he was in tank mode or turret, since both use the tank treads now.
Yeah, I imagine the devs probably tested if tank mode was a good fit for ow2 and concluded that it wasn’t and it was better to just replace it with a new ultimate (I would be very disheartened to hear that they replaced it just for the sake of it, but I’m fairly confident they wouldn’t just do that). I still enjoy Bastion, he’s still my favorite hero, just not quite as fun as he was in ow1.
I’m thinking that with less barriers to intercept the insta kill direct hits, it proved too strong, but lowering it’s damage made it lose the impact it had. I can see it being a balance issue if it was still around. Unfortunate because I thought tank was cool too, but that’s just how it goes :((
Unfortunately the old ult was better, and would be massive in 5v5 if you can manage to kill a target. It’s fine to use Bastion ult like a Torb one, but what’s sad is that it’s just not good enough for Bastion’s kit/power level across the tiers.
Many people here will complain about their main/pet heroes, but the real tragedy is that Bastion mains get more ignored by the devs (when in dire need) more than any other hero. I tip my cap to your stoicism, but maybe you all similarly communicate in tones and beeps which is why we don’t hear much.
Electro is the only awoken Bastion I’ve ever seen on here.
I get killed when I play Ana sometimes, they make a triangle with their missilles around me and I don’t have time to get out. It is quite unfrequent though, it happened to me a couple of times, as most bastions in Plat just throw missiles in a linear way or in spots where they see someone, but it’s easy to get out.
I’d say the easiest targets are immobile heroes like Ana and Zen (Zen could ult though…).
Still, an ult that, at the most, can get you a single kill or 2 if you’re lucky, is not the greatest ult for a dps imo.
