Most of the time this occurs after someone has made some kind of criticism and it’s intended to be abusive and annoying. Why don’t people report this. It’s toxic, as toxic as the person intentionally demeaning or being abusive towards another player. I personally report each incident, because I’m pretty sure if they’re doing it now, they’ve done it before and will do it again, thinking no one’s going to report them. Even so, if you mention it and they don’t stop, and most don’t, then they’re intentionally keeping an open mic. When the train goes by my place, I mute my mic, why can’t these people mute their mics when they’re eating their slop?

Hearing someone chewing whatever over mic should be reported to the police for audible assault, it is so gross.

The first second anything weird, stupid, or annoying comes over someone’s mic, I mute them. Being listened to is a privilege, not a right.
But also, the game should just be push to talk. No open mics, ever.

Also when people speak another language. I played a game yesterday when a dude talked to himself in some foreign language the entire game.
Sometimes it’s a duo talking to each other. And i can hear them saying stuff to me (either saying my username or the hero i play) but i can’t understand what they’re saying.
I personally LOVE hearing them yelling to their siblings or mom all match through their tin-can sounding headset! /s

You can also mute others. There’s no way consoles skipped out on this feature.
Mute the user? Yeah, that is fair and the best course of action. Report them? I don’t think that is justified.
In the meantime, reading this thread thread made me think of this.

Someone was jerking it on audio once during ranked and we all had to hear it…super disgusting.
I mean, report that obviously, but why wouldn’t you just immediately mute? Do you guys not know how to get to the mute menu?

I think it’s a borderline situation. I mute all of them but report those who’s intention was annoying others. A lot of players set up open mic for convenience (I also wanted open mic when I started playing) but OW doesn’t really give help in tuning the mic setup.
I report+mute those who intentionally play music or emit other annoying sounds regardless whether it’s open mic or not.
There are some people with open mic where the keyboard+mouse clicks or children in the background are audible. I simply mute these people.

What about console. The switch you get the pleasure of possibly hearing anything, from food being ordered in a drive through to someone in the bathroom. People are ignorant when it comes to the mic.
If someone is making an annoying sound and others are asking them to stop and they don’t stop, then you don’t report that, even though they’re causing toxicity, whether intended or not?
Get on mic and start fat shaming them. They will stop.
