At least even though there’s only 8 to pick from there’s still more variety in picks you can choose
Like as a tank player they’re are only 2 good tanks rn and for dps sojourn and tracer are several tiers above the rest
As a support I’d say picking brig is really the only throw pick like you can make most other picks work
Whereas if you pick wrecking ball junker queen or zarya rn you’re soft throwing if they pick the better tanks
Or for dps you need to literally be the better player to make other picks work other than soj or tracer
How is not picking kiriko or lucio not the EXACT same as not picking tracer or sojourn or not picking doom or hog?
Try playing ana or moira or mercy against a good kiriko
night and day
Try playing zen into doom & tracer
As if you think we actually have more viable options

Besides Ball and JQ you can play all tanks if you dont want to be a meta slave.
Supports are in the same situation: you can play all of them besides Brig and Mercy if you are not a meta slave and play Lucio/Kiriko all day long.
Now the problem:
You need only 1 tank and 2 supports and the tank role is bigger.

But “good” and “bad” supports are decided by the tank pick. If I pick Brig and I have a tank that Brig doesn’t work well with in the scenario, it’s the same as it is for a bad tank.

Umm I feel like baps good if you run sig or hog
Mercys good with soj
Moira is op up until masters
Ana is good on select maps but she is slightly weak I agree
Zen is awful except for playing attack side
Bap is better with sig but sig just isnt that good rn. and kiriko is infinitely better with hog
and while mercy is good with sojourn would u say shes good enough to trade out lucio speed??
I agree she is, I’m just saying he can work, I don’t play healer as bap though I just kill stuff and it tends to work out as I mainly play dps anyway people are surprised when supports have the most Elims and damage in the game and can out 1v1 all the squishys
If you play the heal bot or heal/ dps hybrid I definitely agree kiriko has the edge
Its the same thing with ashe in the dps section. Like sure shes good and can work out but ur putting urself at a massive disadvantage when up against a sojourn.
and kiriko kinda has an easier job getting picks since she can flank with 0 risk no?

Lmao, what do you mean there’s ‘variety?’
Half the supports are hardly worth using, due to being outclassed and outdated, Kiri’s just been near nerfed across the board, so she’s likely gonna drop in pick rate quite drastically in the next few weeks.
The only supports you can play that won’t get you flamed for throwing are, surprising noone, Ana, Lucio and Baptiste. The way its been for the past few years. Not weeks, not months, not seasons. Years.
So, sure, in terms of their actual kits, yeah - they’re pretty diverse. But in terms of gameplay? You don’t pick Ana, Lucio or Baptiste, you’re putting your team at a disadvantage. Kiri and Zen to a lesser extent, as they’ve got good damage and utility to make up for their downsides.
Support is by far the worse role in the game. It got no changes, besides nerfs, when the shift to 5v5 happened, making them glorified ult batteries. Damage is far too high for healing to be overly effective in all situations, like it was in OW1, but none of the supports received any buffs to their utility. In fact, most of them got their utility removed. Brig had her CC and armour taken from her, Ana had her Sleep Dart cooldown increased by a ridiculous amount. And Blizzard is happy to just throw the role down the drain, apparently. It wouldn’t surprise me if Support queues start to get even faster. I don’t know anyone in their right mind who’d willingly play support anymore. I used to play it religiously, but now I’ve just swapped to Tank, which used to be my flex role. Its more fun, you have far more impact, and the heroes are actually allowed to use their kit to support their allies.

Um I’d say as the fight last longer kiriko has the edge with heals and maybe getting picks but if you’re decisive I tend to get more value on bap as if you always get the first kill every team fight then u tend to win
Do you really think support mains have a lot of viable option? I asked my all-rounder Grandmaster buddy and he said there aren’t many viable options for support mains. I encourage you to reconsider your opinion.
That’s always been true. There’s a reason people like Kolorblind and Steveoo were basically the only people playing Bastion and Symmetra in top 500.
The last time I’ve played it only took seconds to get in the match. Support is a ghost town.
