People aren't just complaining about hacking in overwatch

I get annoyed seeing posts about hackers 24/7 in overwatch over exaggerating an issue that shouldn’t be at the fore-front of this dumpster fire game.

After looking around for a second I realized that this is a common thing in FPS games for people to make hackusations constantly.

Some guy here is saying 1 to 2/3rds of the Preds (like T500 in OW) are hacking. Theres 750 preds in Apex so 500 of them are “hacking.” thats like saying 333 OW T500 players are hacking (differs between roles)

This guy is saying that fortnite is the most hacked game around. Probably because he gets diffed 24/7 and can’t concede an oz of his overly inflated ego to accept he just sucks.

But i guess the people who complain about overwatch hackers are the ones making real claims lmao

There are cheaters in an absolutely massive quantity of lobbies and you are just plain blind to it.

In 2023 it’s called equity. Some people aren’t gifted with mechanical aim. If you’re that good then it shouldn’t matter if they level the playing field.

EQUITY!

Omfg there is no way they willingly call themselves that :skull:

This. Hacking is much more common than people realize.

The thing to keep in mind however is that hacks are intentionally difficult to detect. Both by anti cheat software, and by observers themselves. Good cheats give you an edge- they don’t make you an unkillable god with 100% headshot lock on accuracy. Why? Because it’s laughably easy to see.

Anyone watching going “THIS GUY IS TOTES HACKING!”, unless they’re doing such a hardcore lock on, is more than likely someone coping badly that they lost. Again - they’re hard to see on purpose.

So is hacking a problem? Absolutely. Can you tell who is hacking? Most of the time- no.

Cheating in online games is a solid problem. because players claim they cant learn to get better at a game. They are lazy and refuse to learn how to use a mouse and a keyboard, or even a controller. It is a problem. Because everyone wants to be an amazing gamer. Yet they wont sit down and take the time to learn how to play a game.

10 years ago, not even 12% at most cheated in online games. then in the last 5 years it jumped to 36% of players are using some sort of cheat. I think today we are seeing 31-38% of the playerbase cheating in all online games.

When Im being shot through walls by other players that I clearly dodged their fire from, and IM on a solid PC that is fully loaded with good hardware on a solid connection, something’s not right in paradise.

IDk, eitherway they are going to have to decide to start banning GPU hardware ID or ban Operating system IDs and start asking money for the game. If people dont want to learn the game. That is on them. Life isn’t about participation trophies…

Somebody want to get this baby some tissues before the wet works get his bib wet?

It’s like people like you have lived under a rock your whole life and jump into gaming forums and make stupid statements like this thread.

From osgamers:

"# What Percentage Of People Cheat In Video Games?

So, when others around them aren’t playing by the rules, they start cheating to compensate for the unfair advantage other players have. 32% of the gamers surveyed admitted to cheating at least once, with 12% owning up to regular or constant use of cheats. That’s almost half of the players!"

What percentage of gamers use cheats?

“PLITCH asked recipients of its survey how many of them use shortcuts and lifehacks in their everyday lives, to which less than half of them replied yes. However, when it comes to video games, that number shot up to 57 percent.”

Where does the dangleberry mentality that you’re displaying in this thread come from? Like how do you get that far gone? You literally have ZERO idea what you’re talking about.

Do the wiggle  seen this vid already

How sad does a person’s life have to be to cheat in this game?

My dyslexic self definitely read this word as something else.

I got accused of cheating because I used and I quote “3 mines in 4 seconds” on Junkrat.

Most people who call cheats on someone else havw no idea wtf they’re talking about.

I’ve only seen 1 hacker, and I’m not even sure they were, it was a Cassidy with lifeguard skin, never missing a shot. Didn’t even check the replay, it was a just a qp match at S1/S2 I think.

Nah, can tell from experience people cheat most of the time not because they want to be “pros”, just want to see the reaction of other players, others doing ragequits (upload them to their anonymous social media), etc, blamming by microphone, etc; and they just want to have a laugh. In some cases they may even be good players, just got bored of the same old game with no updates.

Season 5 of ow2 top 500 has like, what? 50-80 removed accounts for cheating. And that’s the ones blizzard catches, when they’re known for having a below average anti cheat system.

It’s not TF2 levels of bad but it’s not great. I knew a guy who eventually got banned for cheating but it took blizzard 17 seasons of cheating to find out.

i dont think cheating will ever disappear but the only thing you can do is be proud that you dont cheat. if you dont i mean, the cheaters know who they are and why they do it. probably to lie to themselves or be toxic somehow

ive seen hackers myself and seen a lot of threads for this game but i do remember hacking in other online games i have played. way back to halo 2 and the old xbox live days hehe

the most memorable hacker/cheater encounter i have had was actually pubg with a duo partner. dude was russian with a BIG RUSSIAN accent and hardly spoke english. i remember being in one of the mini cities on the desert map…forgot what it was called. thought for sure we wouldnt make it to the last circle or top 10 but the dude kept on telling me “dont worry im good” sure enough i kept on seeing him on the killfeed and thought dam this dude is a pro. they had replays for pubg so i went back to watch how he did it and yea… dude would shoot people through walls and no scope shot people 100s of yards away. he didnt even have a 4x scope and i kept on offering him scopes i would find in buildings lol

Videos of aimbotters have lead people to believe that hacking is super obvious and snappy, when those are just people who are garbage at configuring it properly, people testing on burner accounts, or just plain trolls.

The reality is modern cheats are nearly impossible to detect with software, or visually. A heavily simplified example would be the image recognition aimbots that never interact with the game directly beyond seemingly normal inputs

Properly made, they don’t really have any visual tells, just gently tugging people’s aim, or correcting it, complete with random delays that give an appearance of a reaction speed that’s just above average like a pro or advanced player, and anticheat can’t detect them either, just swinging the outcome enough in their favor to push them in “Good/great player” territory, but never cranked up to appear superhuman.

I absolutely assure you, most matches you play have someone using cheats, because they’re so damn easy to use, and so safe to use these days. Half of the brunt work of image recognition has already been done, so even hobbyist programmers can implement and whip one up themselves if they want, because the barrier to entry for this style of cheating is so low compared to the past, and the risk of getting caught is near impossible as long as you’re not stupid.

The problem ends up compounding upon itself because the more people that realize how easy it is, and how undetectable it is without much effort, more people start doing it, justifying it with “Everyone else is doing it, I just want to stay fair” mentality.

Even Riot games, albeit said in business language, essentially admitted that it is impossible to detect unless people push the cheats to inhuman levels.

TL:DR Doomer take, but non professional competitive play is basically dead. Unless you get a bunch of people with vetted devices, you’ll never have a truly fair FPS game ever again unless anticheat software is permitted to become radically invasive borderline spyware on your computer.

Exactly. Peoples perception of what cheating looks like today is based on some late 1990s level cheating that was painfully obvious to anyone.

Hey I want to know where you went mouth piece? You stirred up a thread with your denial, where’d you go?

I have seen 1 hacker in the original overwatch during 3 years. I have seen around 5 hackers only this year in OW2, and the year did not pass yet. I am a grandmaster in multiple roles, semi-pro player of crossfire in Asia during my prime young times, so trust me, I know how to differentiate cheats from hacks.

It’s safe to assume that f2p will bring more hacking, cuz people have nothing to lose. But I am not sure that currently overwatch is infested with hackers, or it bothers anyone.
