PED Usage among Gamers (And its VERY ugly consequences)

Performance Enhancing Drugs - In order to become the best at a game many players will take large risks and big sacrifices, often to the point where they eventually even ruin their bodies and mind. Substance use among gamers IS an issue and should be addressed as such.

If you think about improving your gaming performance the first things that usually come to mind are hardware and other peripheral devices. But the limits of improvable efficiency through a mouse is quite limited. Since years there has been barely any advancement in sensors and higher refresh rates for monitors have essentially not been introduced.

I specifically bought a mouse with 16.000 DPI in order to increase effective screen movement capacity. eDPI at 20 is 320.000 and sufficiently swift for most scenarios. But there is a limit not only in DPI but also efficiency of higher DPI usage and at this point PED-Usage will become a factor many people won’t be able to ignore.

I will not specify the substances being used today as it is likely against forum rules but if you are interested, one Google Search will likely reveal all. The simplicity in which these drugs are obtained nowadays is astounding yet just as frightening at the same time. Deaths usually are covered up by “Unknown Circumstances” but we all know something isn’t quite right.

If you personally are on the fence, don’t do it. While the “professional gamers” often like to show you the bright side they won’t show you their dark times and won’t report on inconvenient side effects or worse. Side effects could be Insomnia, Erectile Dysfunction, Heart Problems or Death.

I urge you to raise awareness on the issue and thanks for reading.

it is crazy that people would do certain drugs or medications to be better at a video game but the triggers and dopamine releases, mental joy or triggers of getting kills, wins is addictive.

i drink A lot of coffee in the morning and i notice it does make me play overwatch better if i didnt drink coffee in the morning. dont know if a lot of coffee is bad for you tho, i drink like 4-6 cups a day

Large doses of caffeine taken in regularly aren’t super great but they’re nothing compared to what is being done on the whole scale. I wouldn’t worry too much about it but it might of course be desirable to lower that intake just a tad.

Does coffee count too?

Well if you’re super technical yeah but I wouldn’t worry about that.

Like, my performance incrases with coffee. If I have not got my cup, I play terribly, lol…

That sounds very suspicious. I’m calling the police.

Yeah that’s why it technically could be considered one. But it doesn’t have huge side effects and is, most importantly, legal.

I would imagine this being a similar problem to students taking medications that they aren’t prescribed for to heighten their attention span and need less sleep.

There are dangerous side effects, if I don´t get my coffee, lol

Exactly. Although most students tend to have a comparatively tame drug usage while some professional gamers make large use of cycles and different stacks of compounds. And I’m not talking about bicycles.

I did read an article not too long ago that Adderall is actually very common among pro gamers.

For those not unaware, Adderall is a drug used to treat ADHD. It is also known to be used by students who pull all-nighters. What is scary about Adderall is that it is very addicting and can lead to psychosis.

Also doctors have said it will not make you better at playing games:

Yet people still take it.

Absolutely - And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Are injectables being used aswell?

Unfortunately yes, mostly by very dedicated players looking for that final edge, especially since it does bypass the liver thus potentially “limiting” organ damage somewhat

What isn’t quite right… are you saying there are deaths in esports that are being covered up?

This whole post reads almost as if you’re trying to out someone without actually saying who they are or what they used. I’m not trying to be negative I just got more and more confused as I read this post. It’s just hit a point where I was like

“okay so hes saying… well, wait a minute let me read more… well… okay? …what…?”

A full cover-up might of course happen aswell but usually the exact reasons and cause of death are simply never or only partially reported.

I’m sorry if parts of this are confusing, I tried to be as clear and easy to understand as possible but sometimes especially concerning such a topic things like that can of course happen.

Cafeine doesn’t help to complete precision tasks, actually makes you worst at it, increases your heart rate to make you more alert. Also cafeine gets dimishing returns, you end up needing more to have similar results if you have a habit of drinking each day. It’s addictive, affects your heart and often if drank without milk or any food can hurt your stomach and also have some laxative proprieties if your body got too much, if you got any of those “habits” try to avoid drink too much cafeine and often eat something with it.

There are several researchs about, there is one in particular testing the web pattern on spiders affected by several drugs, cafeine it’s one of them.
