Now the first question is how large are the files for Overwatch in all? I’ve tried looking and I can’t find much.
The second is do I have to have it directly on my computer? Like if I have it on a memory stick or something would I be able to play it while the stick is plugged in without moving it onto the computer itself? Or so I have to have it on the computer?
You can play Overwatch on a flash drive or something but it would be slower than if you put it on the computer. Mine is apparently 21.5GB but that is with the PTR so.

Ah I see, well thank you! I wanted to make the jump to pc but right now I have to share one so I can’t exactly put much on it.
I’m not sure if account sharing is allowed though:
Account Access Limitations
Only you are allowed to access an account registered in your name. We don’t recognize the transfer of accounts between individuals. Activities performed on your account are your liability.
You may not share your account or password with anyone, except if you are a parent or guardian, in which case you may permit one minor child to use your account. You may not use your account at the same time, and you are liable for activities conducted by the minor child.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and the use of your user name and password. You are responsible for all uses of your information, even if you don’t authorize them. Security of your account is your responsibility.
Edit:
Or were you talking about sharing a PC?

Oh no I’m not sharing an account only the pc I’d be playing on, I know account sharing isn’t allowed

You could play it from a flash drive but I would deter you from doing so. Rewriting the folders over again will ruin the flash drive quickly (They aren’t meant to run Games).

Ah darn…I guess I’ll just have to wait a lot longer to get pc then.
Yeah, anything USB related seems to have problems with games.
I’ve had mixed results keeping games on external hard drives that connected via USB and typically they’ve had problems launching.
If it’s a desktop you’re sharing (instead of a laptop) are you able to buy and install your own internal hard drive for your games?
HDDs are pretty cheap nowadays, especially now with a lot of places offering Tax Season sales ( in the US at least)
Unfortunately it’s just a laptop that I’m sharing so I can’t get a interal hard drive
An external HDD is an option too although not as good as an internal HDD (or ssd).
overwatch is like 12gb initial download and events are usually small but the latest one is 13gb but i think it is really 6gb plus some other stuff that downloads super slow
My install directly for Overwatch is about 13.7 GB but that is always subject to change over time.
There’s two factors to consider when playing a game off of a flash drive. The first is large files. There’s a file size limitation but as far as I can tell, the files are small enough to not be an issue. The other issue is the read and write speeds of the flash drive and the USB standard in use. You’ll want something that is 3.0 USB and find out the speed of the drive itself. (if you are unsure of the standard your USB is, blue is typically an indication that it is 3.0) Something that is fast is going to be a bit pricey.
As for external Harddrives, they’re typically 5400 RPM drives in an external unit. You can find units that are SSDs within an USB 3.0 unit of which those would be more ideal. The typical size of these SSDs are 120 GB or more which would be plenty big.
Short answer: big
Long answer: fxcking big (relative)
the last update we had was 15gb and 21gb for console or people that haven’t updated in a while, so i don’t think a stick would suffice, not to mention they’re just as expensive if not more than portable hard drives, you can buy a 3.0usb 1TB for as low 50$ from western digital.
this might get censored out but this is the one i have right now

you can play from a flash or phdd but load times will be longer,
if you do get a usb make sure it’s 3.0
The size of the game it’s somewhere around 12 ish gigabytes but I’m at work so I can’t check on that. I can tell you the game has an issues cleaning up patch files so it can easily get to 20 GB at that point you have to uninstall and reinstall.
I work with someone who uses one of those passport drives for projects and it causes some issues while I use this enclosure with a samsung 256 GB SSD and it performs much better. But obviously is a bit more pricey. On the positive side of things, can reuse the SSD later on as part of OP’s new computer.

i have OW on my 120SSD, every other game and launcher is on my PHDD and i’ve never had a problem with it personally, but it seems like portability and price are the big thing.
