PC player here and I'm not sure I understand the console mouse and keyboard problem

I would just assume that most people would want to use the right tools for the right job.

When I was into flight sims and the Mechwarrior games (I’m an old man), I bought a joystick to play those games, because it was the right interface for playing that game.

When I bought a Wii, I bought a set of classic controllers to play Smash Brawl with. A friend of mine who was great at Melee would plug in his Gamecube controller to play Brawl with. We did this because it seemed a better interface for that game than the standard Wiimote.

If I were to play a modern FPS game on a modern console, I’d want a mouse and keyboard. Because it’s a better way to interface with that style of game. It’s the right tools for the job. So I don’t understand why console players complain about it. Wouldn’t everyone want to play that way? Why is trying to enforce a bad interface preferable to adapting to a better one?

Because if it were as simple as plugging in a mouse and keyboard into the console it would be fine. People are buying hardware not meant to be used with the console against a playerbase that vastly does not have that piece of hardware.

In flight sims and for smash bros it’s the norm to use certain controllers. This is not the case with Kb+mouse on console.

This, basically. If you didn’t have to go out of your way to buy and set up adapters, I don’t think anyone would have a problem with M+KB on console. Not even Blizzard, who’ve stated that they consider playing with a mouse on console to be cheating.

FYI - Sony sells a PlayStation 4 mouse and keyboard. Its on their main site under “special controllers” alongside steering wheels and joysticks.

I know. It makes it quite confusing when Blizzard and Sony apparently have completely different views on using M+KB with consoles. I didn’t bring it up because in my understanding adapters are usually cheaper and what most people use.

I would be pretty mad if I was banned by Blizz for using a product I bought directly off Sony and PS4.

Redo your keybinds so you can play using only your keyboard. Right and left click as well as turning. Now go play in QP or even comp using only your keyboard.
This is what an average console player faces against a console player with a mouse and keyboard.

the problem is that M/K has been deemed cheating.

blizzard and sony can ban you for different things. blizzard has stated it’s cheating so don’t use it, simple as that.

Can I have a source.

I play on PS4 and it’s not as big of an issue as people make it seem. It’s very rare and people tend to throw it out there a lot because someone who has good aim killed them.

PS4 does support M+KB but its up to the developers if they want to use it. Fortnite supports it. It’s one of the few games I know of that does.

Overwatch does not. People who do need an external adapter. It lets them play with a M+KB with aim assist which makes it very unfun to play against. But like I said, it’s very rare and people claim everyone who killed them is using m+kb.

Not only that but console has aim assist, and the general feel and meta of Overwatch is slightly different on console than it is on PC. For example, Torb was basically a must-pick and the devs had to nerf his turret so it wasn’t as good at auto-aiming as it is on PC because people on PC generally have kb/m set ups that makes aiming a lot easier. Like aim assist helps on console, but it is still no where the same as it is on PC.

Another example is the Ana metas weren’t as widespread on console because of the aim mechanic.

Okay and your opinion is yours I play console to use a controller not to be out played by a completely different device that isn’t even standard

I understand how big an advantage mouse and keyboard have over a controller. The part I don’t understand is why console player wouldn’t want to play with the most advantageous interface.

Specialized controllers for specialized types of games has long been the norm, especially for console games. I had a variety of peripherals for my NES and Atari. Why is that different now? I would assume that console players would want the right tool for the right job, and I would assume that console manufacturers would be happy to sell consumers those tools, and I assume that Blizzard would have an easier time balancing the different versions of the game if they all used the same interface. It’d be a win for everyone. Thus, I don’t understand the current state of things.

Basically people are paying money to have an advantage over everyone else. FPS are easier to play on a keyboard, so people will pay money to get hardware to hook a keyboard into a console.

I have bad wrist and using a mouse and keyboard kill them. If i wanted to play with mouse and keyboard I would play on PC. I play on ps4 so I can use a controller without having the rest of the players around me use M/K.

I think the big issue as someone pointed out is the aim assist on consoles. If the game could somehow detect the mouse and keyboard peripherals and disable the aim assist when those devices were plugged in to the system, then it probably wouldn’t be that much of an issue.

MAYbe people like controllers? Go figure growing up with consoles breeds such a thing

Scuff controllers and pro console systems give advantages but nothing like mkb. The aiming with them on console is akin to modding on PC.

Blizzard does not enforce KB/M use on any console. They have clearly stated that is the decision of the console manufacturers to make up their mind and stance on KB/M useage on their respective consoles.

Blizzard doesn’t care one way or another. (Unless I’ve missed a news release)

I agree and I am a console player as i cannot afford a good pc therefore I have no choice except console. It sucks as I play Fortnite on mouse and keyboard and all you have to do is “Plug and Play”. This annoys me as I feel as though I am a better Mouse and Keyboard player than I am with a gamepad I really wish Blizzard would implement the same feature that Fortnite has done with there game! :triumph::sleepy:
