Passive Ability for every dps hero might balance the game

Since the hitscan nerfs double shield has been ruining the game experience for a lot of players, speacilly casual or low elos.
Instead of increasing or reducing damage (again) and breaking the game (again), why not add passive abilities to every damage hero?
Reaper can regenerate his health, “The Cowboy” reload his weapon with his roll and these are simple adds but they change the way to play with and against them.
With this in mind I have a few examples to passive for all dps heroes.

Ashe:
Dynamite does more damage if it blows without being shot.

Bastion:
Decreased weapon recoil while in recon mode.

Doomfist:
Hand cannon’s fourth shot deals a little bit more damege.

Echo:
Mobility increased while duplicated. (Or tri shot doing more damage with consecutive hits, couldn’t come up with anything better)

Genji:
Dragonblade deals more damage but his mobility is decreased.

Hanzo:
Sonic Arrow also highlights mines, turrets and translocator. (this is not passive, but Hanzo is actually balanced)

Junkrat:
When steel trap is actived, concussion mines have a larger reach.

Mei:
Mobility increased while Ice Wall is active

Pharah:
The splash is larger the higher she is. (another one I couldn’t come up with anything better)

Soldier 76:
Pulse Rifle has increased damage with consecutive shield shots.

Sombra:
Reduced recoil for a short period of time after hacking an enemy.

Symmetra:
Photon Projector alternate shots cannot be blocked. (not a passive, again, but sym should be a support hero anyway)

Torbjorn:
Turret shots have decreased damage behind shields but higher damage when it’s open.

Tracer:
Pulse Pistols have increased damage for a brief period if Pulse Bomb kills an enemy.

Widowmaker:
Venom Mine is no longer lethal and last for less time but it increases the damage taken from any source when triggered. (not passive, I know)

Some of these ideas may seem unbalanced 9speacilly in high elos) and I’m not saying they should be used, they are just examples. I just wanted to highlight how every hero could have a passive ability, and how these simple changes would affect a lot the way the game is played.

Let me know what you think and if you have any passive you would like to see added to a hero.

Yeah, I’d much rather they create unique passives for each character rather than “role passives”, so long as the passives aren’t insane!

Lotta these aren’t even passives they’re just balance tweaks desguised as passives. Literally the bastion one already is a thing…

Exactly, the thing about passives is that they are not tied to just one aspect of a hero’s kit, but rather compliment the hero’s playstyle.

An example:

Widowmaker’s Merciless: Widowmaker deals additional damage to revealed enemies.

This plays into her kit, and compliments the hero’s playstyle.

Can’t remember which champion had it, but League had this assassin-type character that dealt increased damage if a target was isolated from any allies… wouldn’t that be a cool thing for a hero? Genji, Sombra maybe? Sort of an incentive to get players playing a certain playstyle?

Do you mean Rengar? That’s the only Jungler I can think of that would have a passive like that.

I guess the threshold would have to be, “What’s considered ‘isolated’ by Overwatch standards”?

I agree, these are just examples.
The point is adding passives to heroes.

Yeah, probably a radius around each hero most likely. Could get dicey based on certain map spots but eh, just spitballin’ here :stuck_out_tongue:

So we’re punishing skill now?

Actually no. Dynamite shot could instantly deals an area damage instead of a damage per time. Again, the ideas are examples, nothing else.

A large LOS-Affected check and a small check that ignores LOS to accommodate for when a teammate is simply around the corner but still close.

Double sheild isn’t oppressive, OP or anything like that. People just are unwilling to swap to pharah or sym. Try playing rein sigma with 4 fully charged beams in ur face.

Nobody wants to adjust their play style to account for shields. They want to stay on the heroes they’ve grown accustomed to being good in every situation. And why should they change? They’ve always been catered to in the past.

Incidentally, soldier is rather good at pressuring shield and he is hitscan.

He is supposed to be good at breaking sheild, his burst is on a cooldown and he has the worst ult.

Sym is better againtst rein sig becuase you have a better ult u can farm off the tanks, and you have the same dmg and the teleporter utility.

Yeah sure, lets make the ttk even faster in this game to drive the remaining tanks away!

Great idea…

If Ashe shoots the dynamite, the explosion radius is larger than if it self-detonates by about 2 meters, and this is already in the game.

Already there.

Not really necessary. 4 shots of Handcannon is over 200 damage dealt within 2-ish seconds.

Unnecessary for both.

Genji has a slight movement speed increase while Dragonblade is active.

THis could be an added feature to Sonic Arrow, and not really a passive.

Not necessary.

No.

Nope.

Nope.

There’s no recoil on Sombra’s gun.

You can lower the damage and travel speed and this can work.

Turret shots are at 16 damage. This is extremely low. It doesn’t need to be lower.

Tracer is one of the highest and hardest hitting damage-role heroes in the game. Doesn’t need to be higher.

You could keep all the current features and still allow players to take extra damage from Widowmaker while affected by Venom.

Most of these aren’t passives, but additional perks to existing abilities. Passives are generally traits that complement the character’s whole identity and not just a single ability or attack.
