Paladins on Nintendo switch, why not overwatch?

It’s in the title, what’s up? Is it hardware? devs lazy? Just don’t want to? I just want to know if it’s possible

I think the overwatch hardware is to big, but don’t quote me on it. Plus, if you actually stick with Paladins you probably won’t get it. The only reason it was pushed to a full release was so they could make a quick buck while the market had no competition. It won’t last, unless the Battlegrounds trend lasts longer than expected.

Nintendo’s online services are craptastic. Sure, Splatoon and Mario Kart will work well, but anything else runs like a slideshow, with seconds of lag between each frame.

Who’s to say their not considering it already?

Why would you choose to play any game on the Switch that is not an exclusive title, literally any other game runs way worse or looks worse than playing it on the other platforms.

I believe they said they won’t. Also I heard that the shader type on Overwatch is more graphics intensive than the shader type on Paladins.

Switch uses a much different architecture for its GPU, so the engine optimization is quite different. The GPU itself is also comparable to a 830M, which is about a step behind the Geforce GTX 660.

A GTX660 can run OW on ultra settings at 50 fps, so it’s not optimal. It’s also not a precise comparison because of how the Switch gpu works. Still, I wouldn’t expect any major differences without some Shinto sorcery involved.

Nah, Battlegrounds is singing its swan song thanks to the hackers or at least it is approaching that point. Fortnite has all of the rage in the BR genre although I personally prefer Darwin Project a tiny bit more for that genre. (It’s literally the Hunger Games. lol)

Not only Paladins, but I hear that Fortnight is going to make a Switch port. Though I don’t think that the Fortnight one is officially announced yet.

But if you go to GameStop actual 8 year old are the ones that are begging their moms to buy them God of War, Fortnite, call of duty, shadow of collosus, etc.

You got to get out more and stop relying on dead memes.

I thought Doom ran pretty well on the Switch am I wrong? Sure its only 30 FPS but its still something lol

My PC can run Paladins on MAX settings, 200% render scale at 40+ FPS. I play it on 100% render scale to ensure 60+ FPS.

That very same computer can barely run Overwatch on the lowest settings, at 100% render scale, at 30 FPS… on the Training Range.

Overwatch is just much more resource intensive than Paladins. And with the Switch being a significantly less powerful machine than PS4 or XBO, ensuring Overwatch runs at 60 FPS (something critical for an Online FPS) on it is just not feasible.

On top of that, Nintendo’s Network infrastructure has not proven itself capable of supporting games such as Overwatch. Paladins might be a good test, but until then we just don’t know.

As many others have stated, Paladins will most likely not run well on Nintendo infrastructure… especially any battle royale mode with all the players.

I say good luck, not to mention Paladins (Hi-Rez) has to do stuff like this to have a market that Overwatch (Blizzard) doesn’t do / can’t do. So they are being smart but they are only as smart as pushing PUBG to xbox was… and if you didn’t know PUBG still runs like garbage on the console. Just because someone pushes a title to console doesn’t mean it will fair well / run at even 30 FPS these days for some reason which you would think is the bare minimum to expect from developers today.

It’s said that it will be 60 FPS. Just a heads up that battle royale isn’t a mode it’s an entirely separate game.

PUBG said 60 FPS on xbox. It usually runs 10-30 dipping up and down.

Marketing at it’s finest I’m afraid.

Bare in mind that Nintendo Switch is by a great margin the least powerful console as well and runs significantly slower in docked mode for many games still too.

Fair enough. We’ll see how steady the framerate is when it’s released. I think you mean it runs slower on portable mode. Docked mode is typically faster.

You sure on docked? I know games like Zelda at any rate run much smoother portable for some reason. Do different games have different problems perhaps?

Kind of a bizarre problem if it’s per application. Would be hard for developers to figure out root cause.

Oh I misremembered thanks. Although I think it is per application. When docked IIRC it has access to a more powerful GPU.

OW requires a GPU with the equivalent of a GTX 460 (675 MHz graphics clock and 336 CUDA Cores) while the Switch has 256 CUDA cores which is significantly less than the 460 (min requirements on PC.

Not only is this the case, but even if it was higher in hardware quality, I don’t see why we should push an already awkward FPS controller, somewhat laggy networking chips, and poor ventilation even further in a competitive FPS atmosphere.

I’d have extreme downgrades anyway if it was on the Switch. Like, Hanzo’s dragons would probably not move or something like that.

Zelda runs better on the Switch’s native 720p screen while not having to worry about scaling to whatever resolution (up to 1080p) the TV is on.
