EDIT: After further reviewing other skin bugs, I’m more convinced this is a glitch that isn’t intentional and is just a coincidence Orisa skin came out with it fixed. I still am wary though
This Dva skin was a paid premium OWL skin
Was 10$ in OW1 and is now like 15$ with their OW2 price inflations
They took OUT this starry shader from Dva the day before they release this new starry sheep Orisa skin
This starry shader is special (where the sparkles do not move even if you rotate model) and the tech was already in OW2, I had this pacific dva equipped for all of Season 1 and part of season 2
But the only reason I can think of this point-blank downgrade and removal of features we paid for, is because they wanted to make new Orisa premium 19$ skin look attractive since it’s the only place they are allowing the shader to exist now
This is pure scummery Blizzard.
Ive supported you every day even when I was being called a shill. But you’re making it very very hard to stay positive and keep recommending this game to people.
If this is by chance some one-off major coincidence where something broke with Dva but works with Orisa, fine. But communicate (which you never do anymore, never see blue or orange posts on forums anymore…) so how can we know.
It’s just too blatant Dva was working then randomly her star pattern disappeared and everyone complained and immediately showed up on a new shiny 19$ shop skin…

…I feel like it’s very clearly a bug that has to do with the new Orisa skin using the same texture.
Genji’s dragonblade colors and Ana’s OWL skin eyepatches are all also bugged.
I really don’t think the artist made their skin look uglier on purpose…

it would only take more resources for them to remove it. this wouldn’t benefit them in any way so it’s probably unintentional, though I do fully understand where the cynicism comes from.
Really? In this release of a game where things are broken left, right and centre, that’s the best you can think of? 
I don’t feel convinced, the new 22$ skin is called STAR Sheep, they clearly designed it to be star-themed. It has stars on it
I am a 3D artist and texture and assign materials and shaders all the time (at least in UE4) and never once has assigning it to multiple meshes caused one to suddenly lose part of its design for no reason
It still could be a glitch or bug or something, that’s possible, but we cannot know because they don’t talk to us on here anymore so I’m just gonna be pessimistic on this one
No resources, just 3 seconds to unplug a connection in the shader’s node tree
Im just being cynical this time and feeling like they remove a feature to make a newer product more attractive by adding it in newer one
Like Apple removing headphone jack in an iphone series only to sell it back to us in the next generation as airpods

The real injustice here is d.va and orisa getting a starry skin before sigma THE ASTROPHYSICIST. It’s not fair.

You know they could just do both and upset nobody right? There isn’t any benefit to them removing a feature from a skin that isn’t even on sale rn. There isn’t any benefit even IF it is on sale. The skins aren’t competing. They just want you to spend money.

The benefit isn’t dealing with Dva at all, the benefit is adding it to the new Orisa shop skin to make it more attractive since it’s the only skin in game using that shader now, rarity = more value
I pray Im wrong though and its a weird bug they just don’t feel like addressing but will silently fix one day™ like they always do

I hate that this happens. I went looking for the bugfixes or minor changes in today’s patch and was miffed when I couldn’t find them.
I only thought about it because I was on Zen and noticed they finally changed the Discord HUD icon when you have it on an enemy (the one that shows where the enemy is when they go behind walls and such) back to red, like in OW1. It was made light blue, like a friendly icon, up til now.
Right but they just took it away from another skin in this scenario you’re talking about. Doesn’t that mean the rarity is garbage because they could just take it away at any point? It just doesn’t make much sense.
Someone would’ve had to consider the overlap between the D.va and Orisa skin market and decide “yeah this’ll make more Orisa players happy than D.va players upset, and we’ll make more money this way”.
Wouldn’t it just be smarter for them to rotate the Pacific D.va skin back into the shop, starry shader and all, and just make more money? Do you think a significant number of people wouldn’t buy the Orisa skin if the D.va skin still had the shader?
That’s way too much thought to be put into this stuff when we’re here on Dec 16 and I still can barely see rank divisions because the text is tiny.

Iirc, D.Vas stars effects didn’t have the stars move around in the space like Orisa does, it looked a little different, if my memories don’t deceive me, at least.
My theory is that they just upgraded the shader but somehow removed it from D.Va in the process on accident
Likely time to give up but we’ll see if people will still play pretend and cover their ears as more and more red flags continue to pop up.
I just hope it gets fixed eventually, it was a really amazing Dva skin
The subreddit does not agree with me, my post got hundreds of replies overnight before getting auto-deleted because it received too many downvotes or something (not quite sure, I got an automated message saying it got removed but I can’t read the entire notifcation, clicking on it just says “content no longer available”
