I noticed that the Overwatch League is down about 10k in viewers.
Has anyone else made this same correlation?
It’s usually at 100k but it’s barely hitting 90k for some reason.
It’s almost like 10k viewers are watching something better

There was a large boost when they revealed the League tokens rewards but now the people who arent getting any from watching prolly left.
Oh dear, how unfortunate.
I mean it could also just be there line up for the day, i’m only half paying attention to this match because it is New York EXL vs Shanghai Dragons
Who wants to watch the dragons get their teeth kicked in.
I sure don’t.
But I’ll tune in the next two games.
well the issue is that they are doing something different from actual esports, they are trying to turn it into like, real sports type thing, so lots and lots of pro playing. obviously people will get burnt out of watching quickly (except for world championships)
i really wish the overwatch team coulda let its esports develop naturally, like all the great esports (ex: csgo, LoL, DotA2) but instead they are doing forced esports and it’s proving to not work. This is the main issue with the esports scene not working out, because when it develops naturally then you have an audience that is genuinely interested in it but when you have it forced like this the audience that is genuinely interested is going to be a lot lower.
It’s not worth us Europeans getting no sleep for so few tokens.
xQc is streaming …
I’m waiting til the Houston vs Glads match to tune in.
Yeah their attempt at incentive failed miserably because they couldnt work out the tech. I still watch, but thats mostly because its become a group activity for my friends. I don’t get any tokens because twitch either doesnt track them well or blizz doesn’t care, because blizz just refers you to twitch if you try fixing the problem.
Watching the shanghai just get slapped around isn’t fun but the tokens are nice :D!
It’s shanghai vs new york. Anyone who knows anything about the league knows what this game will be after about 10 seconds.
In the beginning, it was as high as 170K. Then it dropped down to a mild 117K or so for the end of Stage 1/start of Stage 2. Now I am expecting it to be around 107K.
Now it is, what? 82K as of this moment? Has the situation with xQc ripped viewers from OWL? Is disinterest setting in due to stale meta? Did Twitch wildly overestimate how much people care about OWL skins?
I thought it would be five or ten tokens a game, but no, one token a game, no thank you
I haven’t gotten any for over a week, so that’s fun. I’m missing out on 20+ tokens.
Blizzard should give everyone a free skin after this stage with all these issues.
the worse team in the league is playing against the best team. what do you expect?
it’s almost like you posted this to troll…
That is the natural progression of all shows. It starts high slows down until the finals.
Oh no.
OWL is doomed.
Yes, I agree with you.
But I am more interested in vectors that have nothing to do with the natural life cycle of shows like these, such as disaffected xQc supporters, or those who understand this particular match is going to be a ridiculous blow out, or even how close the meter is to a new OWL skin.
No way to measure all those, of course, but interesting to think about nonetheless.
I don’t think even in the late stage of stage one in less appealing games it hit this low for so long.
Even without incentive.
