Rest well, Wyoming! Thank you as always for providing these match discussion threads! And if you ever need me to take over match discussion thread duties for whatever reason, do not hesitate to call upon me!

On to the matches at hand! Seoul vs. Guangzhou is likely going to prove to be a one-sided affair. I’m calling 3-1 in favor of the Seoul Dynasty. As for the other match, I think the Shanghai Dragons take that one 3-2 over the Fusion.

By the way, happy 4th of July, everyone! And whether you celebrate America’s freedom or not, remember this:

You should really try playing this video while watching OWL.
It’s quite entertaining.

THE SEOUL DYNASTY CLINCH THE REVERSE SWEEP! On the back of 2 egregious Guangzhou Charlie Niners!

FINAL (Match 1)

Oasis (Control): Guangzhou Charge 2, Seoul Dynasty 1.

Junkertown (Escort): Guangzhou Charge 3, Seoul Dynasty 2.

Volskaya Industries (Assault): Seoul Dynasty 2, Guangzhou Charge 1.

King’s Row (Hybrid): Seoul Dynasty 3, Guangzhou Charge C9 (2).

Nepal (Control Tiebreaker): Seoul Dynasty 2, Guangzhou Charge 1 (C9).

FINAL SCORE: Seoul Dynasty 3, Guangzhou Charge 2

The Seoul Dynasty should lock up a spot in the Summer Showdown after posting a 3-1 record with a +3 map differential. For the Charge, I’m afraid, it’s back to the drawing board as they prepare for the Countdown Cup.

Now, we move on to arguably the APAC Match of the Week, the Philadelphia Fusion against the Shanghai Dragons. Let’s get ready to rumble!

The Dynasty with the reverse sweep.

No idea why the Charge would go with Doomfist and Genji in the last map. The inconsistency of both of those heroes cost them the game.

Well, the Fusion are making things interesting, but the Dragons are one map win away from taking the match and getting that much closer to the top playoff seed.

AFTER MAP 2 (Match 2)

Lijiang Tower (Control): Shanghai Dragons 2, Philadelphia Fusion 1

Junkertown (Escort): Shanghai Dragons 3, Philadelphia Fusion 2

MATCH SCORE: Shanghai Dragons 2, Philadelphia Fusion 0

NEXT UP: The second half of Fusion vs. Dragons. The Shanghai Dragons are on MATCH POINT!

It’s the Dragons world, we’re just living in it!

FINAL (Match 2)

Lijiang Tower (Control): Shanghai Dragons 2, Philadelphia Fusion 1.

Junkertown (Escort): Shanghai Dragons 3, Philadelphia Fusion 2.

Volskaya Industries (Assault): Shanghai Dragons 2, Philadelphia Fusion 1.

FINAL SCORE: Shanghai Dragons 3, Philadelphia Fusion 0

The Shanghai Dragons get a 2-0 week and are that much closer to the top APAC playoff seed. For the Fusion, I’m afraid, they now find themselves on the wrong side of the Knockout cutline entering the final week of qualifiers.

A brief look at the APAC Summer Showdown standings (updated through Week 2):

Seoul Dynasty 3-1 (3 League Points) (+3)
Shanghai Dragons 2-0 (2 League Points) (+6)
New York Excelsior 1-1 (1 League Points) (+2)
Chengdu Hunters 1-1 (1 League Points) (+1)

Philadelphia Fusion 1-1 (1 League Points) (+0)
Hangzhou Spark 1-1 (1 League Points) (+0)
Guangzhou Charge 1-3 (1 League Points) (-6)
Los Angeles Valiant 0-2 (0 League Points) (-6)

Seoul, with a 3-1 record and a +3 map differential, should qualify for the Summer Showdown Knockouts barring some magic happening next week. The Shanghai Dragons just need a decent week in front of their home crowd next week to make the Summer Showdown Knockouts. For the Guangzhou Charge, I’m afraid, it’s back to the drawing board as they attempt to salvage their season in the Countdown Cup.

That’s all she wrote for this morning, folks. As a reminder, live matches resume at high noon Pacific (3pm Eastern) with the final day of Week 2 of the Summer Showdown qualifiers. Until then, enjoy the rest of your Sunday morning! And again, happy 4th of July to my fellow Americans. Stay safe if you are shooting off fireworks.
