I agree. This years rule set of four qualifiers makes the game a LOT more exciting to watch, as there’s a lot more at stake, and the fact that the game is the most balanced it has ever been really makes the hero picks interesting. I mean ALL heroes have been played this year for an extended period of time. Even Bastion and Torbjorn.
This was exactly the kinda of boost OWL needed before OW2 release.
Unless your name is Roadhog or Orisa. Heck, even Sigma/Ball aren’t seeing a ton of play in comparison to D.va/Rein/Winston/Zarya.
Also, in what world is Bastion’s total of 3 minutes of play time “extended play”? Like, I can’t comment on how engaging it is, but I feel like that’s really sugar coating it.
As an OGN Apex fangirl that constantly rants about how things were better in the old days, the matches from this regular season have finally done their legacy proud and it’s not even finals yet.
I mean, the original statement still stands: Sigma is picked almost 3X less than D.va. Statistically, almost every single game has AT LEAST one D.va if not two, since she’s sitting at a 50% pick rate. Orisa’s pick rate is abysmal, and Hog hasn’t been picked once. Like, we’re seeing people pick them, but saying that diversity is good when the tank picks are overwhelmingly D.va/Rein/Winston/Zarya and the DPS picks are even less diverse is kind of a case of “maybe it’s fun to watch, but the stats say that it’s not super balanced”
ive been going through the OWL stats the past 2 weeks and the diversity has been very high…with 18 different heroes seeing at least 10% usage both weeks…
if you look at the 2020 season, you have 22 heroes out of 32 with over a 10% pick rate. Statistically, diversity has gone down, not up. The curve is much harsher this year too: the ones being picked a lot have pick rates around 10% higher than the ones picked a lot last year. The number of heroes who were picked under 2 percent was 4 last year: It’s risen to 7 this year.
Really not trying to be a downer here, but statistically, balance is worse not better this year. Like I said, it might still be super fun to watch, but it isn’t indicative of “the most balanced gamestate” like other forum users have been saying.
I tihnk this is pretty important. We have a big roster of different heroes. While, obviously certain heroes are still see way to much or way more usage (mostly hitscan), its good and refreshing to see diverse heroes been played.
Also i finally got the answer why dVa replaces mostly Zarya in many maps as Reins partner.
