I haven’t seen anyone else complain about this so maybe it’s just my phone… but watching the OWL streams in the app drains my battery so much that my phone will decharge while being plugged in to charge. Very slowly… but it does. Last night I woke up from my phone shutting down because it ran out of power (gladly after the games had been finsihed).
Like, I’d say normally my phone charges rather quickly and there’s no problem with the cable or whatever. It’s just that one single app that’s seemingly incredibly demanding. Back when the streams were running on Twitch, I didn’t have this problem (though in both cases the heat that comes from it charging while running streams for hours straight has always been quite concerning).
I assume I can’t simply shut off the screen while watching the streams and it will still work, right? So instead I completely turn down the brightness to at least save some battery charge. But other than that I don’t know what to do. Either I have either my PC or Laptop running throughout the entire night only to get a fraction of the tokens I’m supposed to get because the drops from the website aren’t working for me reliably. Or I accept that my phone will run out of battery and is forced to shut down every night (during OWL sessions).
It works out to about $.25 per hour. You’re getting the equivalent of that in tokens. I would compare that against your electricity bill You are getting from having your mobile on. I would imagine a mobile takes around 5 W to keep powered although you said it was discharging. I believe that 5 W/h works out to around $.10 in electricity bill. Overall therefore I would say you are saving somewhat.
Don’t forget some heat energy is released which may be useful or a waste to you.
