OWCS: Where to apply for broadcasting talent positions?

Hello there,

I am a Play-by-play caster for OW in my fourth year and always wanted to get a shot at casting the highest league of OW. It always has been a dream and with the new OWCS in the making, it somehow feels closer than ever before.

Is there a way to apply for caster positions in the OWCS? And if not, how do you get access to caster positions in general?

You need to know people.

If you have to ask, you don’t know the right people.

Not wrong. Still, I’m one of the people that accesses as many sources as possible, no matter how off it is. Your point is fully valid nonetheless.

Short answer: it’s tough.
Long answer:
I have no idea what’s going on with OWCS but know casting might work like acting where you might need to go to an audition. If they’re not looking for casters they won’t host auditions. Keep your eye out for audition announcements. You might be able to find someone’s DM’s floating around to ask them (if you have a VA/casting portfolio to show.)

Other than that, casting matches and having a presence around the scene could get you noticed. I’m only saying that because I’ve never seen or heard you cast. Sometimes low view OW channels pop up on my feed and I almost never get casters recommended even when I have a strong algo for it.
But even then, I know ex OWL players who would love to cast and OW has had its share of favorites that prevent that. Since things have changed, there might be some extra opportunities. I don’t know though.

Edit: it’s competitive but works a lot like acting gigs from what i’ve seen. Where there are people who know the director and whatnot. but you still want to work with these people so don’t let it get to your head. just do your best. Also, auditions can be tough.

For auditions, there might be a lot of things they ask you to do that you’re not prepped to do. Things like vocabulary and tone could effect people wanting to listen to you.

Email or DM Matt “Mr. X” Morello probably.

On top of being a caster, he was also one of the higher ups in OWL production.

I saw him tweet that he did not get laid off, so he would probably know.

Another option is to co-stream the OWCS if they allow it. They haven’t announced an official broadcast yet.

Try linkedin and go from there. Makes it easier if you’re super hot too.

May be worth keeping an eye on Twitter, see if you can get some advice from the more seasoned casters. See what happens, can’t hurt to ask. And they’re real nice people so they’ll more than likely give you pointers or advice
