OW2xWoW Crossover - Disappointed in the Extreme

The trailer for the OW2 x WoW crossover has dropped today and I cannot contain how bitterly disappointed I am in it.

This is WoWs 20th anniversary, the biggest MMO to have ever been released deserves more than what we have received. As a fan of both of these franchises I was filled with so much hope and excitement for Blizzard to go in on this. Instead we got 4 skins. 1 of which misses the mark in its entirety (Thrall x Zenyatta) and the other is a recolour (Magni x Torbjorn) Zenyatta shares no resemblance to Thrall in terms of structure, aesthetic or ability and to receive a recolour for Magni is just laughable. You even referenced the fact it’s a recolour in the trailer! By the original Magni just converting into the crystal version.

This was an opportunity for the OW2 team to push the ideas of creative license to the extreme. We could have gotten a myriad of amazing and fully realised ideas but I can’t help but feel we have received a half-baked attempt at a crossover and considering that both of these IPs belong to Blizzard, I am dumbstruck at how we have arrived at such a place.

A lot of fans (myself included) were hoping to see the return of the Illidan and Tyrande skins from many years ago, these 2 were amazing and it’s a shame many of us who didn’t play either IP back then, missed out on the chance to enjoy them.

Judging from various community threads on differing platforms, I am not alone in this. Myself and others have come up with many ideas, which ironically enough would churn out profit beyond belief for OW2 as the games main source of income is cosmetic sales. So why are we getting sub-par cosmetics? Many ideas that fans, including myself, have had include:

Brigitte x Lady Liadrin
Doomfist x Garrosh Hellscream
Mercy x Jaina Proudmoore
Lifeweaver x Malfurion Stormrage
Roadhog x Undead Abomination
Junkrat x Gazlowe
Junker Queen x Drakka
Zarya x Thrall
Kel’thuzad x Rammatra
Lightforged Warframe/Draenei x DVA
Night Elf x Hanzo (similar to the Sindorei x Symmetra released a few seasons ago)

All of these and many more would have been readily available for Blizzard to make and do justice to 2 of it’s highest generating IPs, which is ultimately the main goal, is it not? Instead the fans have received lack lustre skins, and to receive these on the eve of a gigantic 20th anniversary celebration of the largest and most popular game in all of human history is, in a word, disheartening.

There is nothing to be done about it as the skins are to be released after the next weekly reset, but I wanted someone from Blizzard to see that I have supported this company, heftily, for many years now and this is the first time I have been woefully disappointed in content that is released.

I agree with the point of your post, but your collab choices are really bad. Let me revise them for you, as someone who actually follows WoW’s lore.

Definitely no, this is an awful idea. Liadrin is terrible. This would be disrespectful to Brig. Just give her Yrel. Brig would be a perfect Yrel. :-1: :-1: :-1:

Eh, sure. :+1:

Nope. Should have gone with Whitemane. Mercy is definitely a Priest. There’s no connection at all between Mercy and Jaina. :-1:

Come on… I guess you thought this because of the tree and petal? LW’s defining trait is that he has Life Grip. Obviously Anduin was the proper choice. :-1:

Obviously Stitches in particular… Kind of bad that you didn’t name him. :+1:

Okay, that’s fine. :+1:

Lol… No. Of all the orc women, you chose Draka? Sigh… Obviously Zaela… :-1: :-1:

??? I…? I thought the Mercy/Jaina had no connections, but this one takes the cake. Absolutely no idea what you’re going with here. Just a hard no, all around. Zarya doesn’t really deserve a skin, she has no personality or character whatsoever. My best guess would be Aponi? Because she’s big and bubbles? Or Dezco, I guess. :-1: :-1: :-1:

Only if Ram’s staff form is necromancer Kel’Thuzad, and his nemesis form is lich Kel’Thuzad. Ramattra Malfurion would also work, with nelf Malfurion being staff form, and bear Malfurion being nemesis form. :+1:

Alright, this is probably the best we’ll get here. But, make it a named draenei girl, at least. Mmh, give D.Va Fareeya. :+1:

Just give Hanzo Lor’themar. There aren’t any notable male nelf archers. :-1:

I was pretty disappointed as well.

Ive never played WoW but I am familiar with the main characters. I know WoW has a ton of characters and of course Overwatch has a ton of characters too. They could have easily made a bunch of skins for many of the characters from WoW. But nope, just 4 were made. Its like a repeat of the Transformers collab: so much potential but only 4 skins were made (which look awesome, by the way).

The quality for these WoW skins are there for me, but the quantity is sadly not there…

Man that would have been incredible! He suits the theme so well :sob:

The disrespect for Liadrin is just rude but I agree with Yrel! Some of these I’ve found from suggestions from others so I’m not quite sure the reasoning, I was a bit confused with Thrall x Zarya myself aha

The fact that they are calling it a collab is kinda funny XD

Blizzard x Blizzard collab? XD

Do they intend to make these skins limited time or what?

Right? He is so fake. Definitely doesn’t play World of Warcraft. Your ideas prove you are the superior fan.

I hate Liadrin, like all around, I have to be honest. I have a serious bias on that one. But bias aside, Yrel would be perfect. She had the same personality as Brig.

Zarya x Thrall, yeah that one just makes no sense at all. Same with Blizzard’s choice of Zenyatta x Thrall. Like wtf is that? Because of Earthern Ring Thrall’s necklace? Really? No way bro, no way. I’m still in disbelief. They allowed for four crossovers… And wasted one of them on that abomination? I… I have no words. I need to lie down.

Illidian Genji and Tyrande Sym are never coming back as they are Blizzcon exclusive skins but I agree they needed to do more new WoW skins for this collab. Only one female hero getting a skin is CRAZY

Just seen someone suggest for Mercy either a Spirit Healer or Val’kyr and I’m amazed. But that’s the point! The community has so many differing ideas and instead of listening to us, we get 4 sub-par creations. Thrallyatta is still upsetting me

The only reason I’m disappointed is it’s just more overpriced nonsense.

Calling it a collaboration means they can charge more money for it.

Yea they dropped the bar very hard with this. Lich King Rein and Sylvanas Widow are great. Reskinned Torb is unacceptable, the skeleton crew clearly is a skeleton crew. Thrall Zen is about as dumb as it gets really.

No Deathwing Dva after years of asking for it but they can do Lilith Moira immediately is also atrocious.

Kargath Bladefist for Doomfist

Sally Whitemane or a Dracthyr would be even better, Mercy could be in human form and when she ults she turns into dragon form

Nathanos Blighcaller for Hanzo (he actually has a bow too, unlike Widow)

A Niffen for Venture (they’re both hideous creatures lol)

Recolored skin in a big iconic collab is what tilted me the most.

Giving widow a bow seems like a terrible idea. Messes with the character silhouette and could cause people to assume they are playing against a hanzo when they first see her.

They don’t have to put in any effort whatsoever when they know people will cumulatively spend 10s of thousands of dollars on garbage low effort skins.

yea… when i saw zen included in the wow collab i was confused bc i couldnt think of a single main character in wow who looks like him

Doom already had the Blackhand skin

Medan.
