Just an opinion, but with the introduction of the new hero, there is very much a huge mobility creep in Ow2; and I think that has a lot to do with the 5v5 format and the team continually making very bad decisions. The game continues to be a messy, brawley, less indentity based heroes with too much in their kit (including mobility). It might be a case of subjectivity, but I think the game feels like a mess, and they should probably pause on creating new heroes and maps until they do the 6v6 testing; but we all know they’re not back to 5v5, as it requires more work, and all they care about is the coin.
Oh, you only need to take one look at OG (currently somewhat playable in OWC) to see that there was a lot of design creep. Latest hero is the latest culmination of such design approach where they throw everything at the wall in hope something sticks.
In OG everyone was good at one thing with maybe a secondary utility. Everyone had clear weakness and a window of opportunity. Everyone could do one thing at a time, maybe ~1.5 Now? We have heroes who have 7+ things going about them and they do all of that whenever they please.
New hero is far from being the one where you can declare “okay, mobility creep”. OW2 has CC creep, mobility creep, mitigation creep and so on. In OG you land two good shots and that’s an elim. In OW2 you pump out 1k damage and nothing happens. It got Soj aka way better Soldier, Kiriko aka way better Mercy, now this Hazard aka way better <insert bruiser + diver tank here>.
It’s far easier to just live as if there’s no tomorrow and crank up those abilities, add more and more and more stuff - rather than actually think interactions through, decide on the clear role, weaknesses, play-style, etc. If it can do everything - you can go wrong with it, eh? Yeah, that will fail someday when they realize that to “make it stronger” and therefore appealing, they need 20+ abilities, 1k HP and 9k damage, but… at that point it will be too late.
I remember the times when genji was considered the king of bloat and jack of all trades… those were the times.
God damn I do not even know how it is possible to make any of the new supports. Also there is doom, orisa, sigma, ball. They can not make a good balanced design if their life depended on it. Look what 5v5 has done to junker as well. She could have been an cool hero in 6v6, but 5v5 forced over design elements.
