One of the things I loved most about OW2 from a dps player perspective is how much easier it is to do your job as a dps. That’s not surprising, I know but the way current OW1 feels for dps is pretty awful, especially for newer players. We always talk about how difficult it is to be a tank in OW1 but I sometimes feel the same is true for dps.
A dps job is to do dmg and confirm kills. Problem with OW1 is the gameplay encourages these mega deathball comps where every encounter a dps has feels like a 1v6. With one less tank in 5v5 and the way maps are constructed it feels easier to isolated out of position targets into the favorable 1v1 matchup dps excel at. This is especially great for newer players coming from an fps background because it makes the game feel more like a shooter.
Watching streams of popular fps players like shroud and Dr DisRespect showed me how inaccessible current OW is to your average fps player. Dr DisRespect especially said on many occasions that he has no idea what to shoot at when comps are grouped up into a giant ball of hp and barriers lol. This is a common experience for those coming to OW for the first time and OW2 fixing this will be great for the game.
Tanks queue times show the role is more enjoyable. Also dps got dmg nerfs in OW2. It’s not dmg numbers that make them stronger. It’s a change in map design and team structure.
Then what do we do? Somebody’s going to end up with the short end up the stick at this rate, and it’s looking to be supports (and somewhat tanks) again.
I think the way the new game is done it will be more rewarding to skill.
In OW1, as much as I liked the game, there is more randomness. Ult charge goes too fast, it is very easy to get randomly killed by a ult you couldn’t avoid at all, the chaos raise the chance of being hit by lost bullets and skills, the number of shields limit the personal impact of players,
And so your personal impact in the team is lessen, whatever role you play.
After I came back from OW2 to OW1, I realized how much the game felt less fun and more cheap.
Now nerf Sojourn railgun and slowball cause they were gamebreaking in the last beta.
It only appears to be supports. Dps feel fine and tanks feel fine too. Only issue with tank is individual heroes not designed for OW2 but that’s easily fixable. Support issue seems to be a lack in agency. That’s why the funnest supports seemed to be high mobility ones like Lucio or Moira.
I would personally like OW2 supports to be balanced around utility and mobility. I don’t want to return to the mega heal creep we once had. And if they are more stationary supports like ana and Zen I think they should do more.dmg with defensive options. The Zen kick change was beautiful. But I’d like ana to have at least 75dmg on her primary.
I mean i get is still early to judge and I can be wrong or right , but to me the skill part is completely stripped of. Considering all maps become payload ones you can’t stay behind covers forever (especially if they keep adding open wide maps like mentioned Havana)
long ranged heroes will have always more impact than others and people will be easier to hit (so once again this big ‘‘patch’’ will nerf my dear Reaper lol)
why I’m not surprised you asked this?
be ready to ask nerfs for soldier, cassidy, spamzo, widow (maybe less her since is hard to play), ashe, etc… and even the op granny will run wild and make the tank job impossible (like she’s not doin that a lot in ow 1 already lol)
You clearly miss the point. Mega heal creep and mega damage creep go hand in hand. Both need to be reduced for the game to actually work. For plays to matter, for clutch kills, clutch supporting, and clutch tanking to matter.
Nothing matters if everything is dead in 2 seconds, nor does it matter if nothing ever dies.
In OW1 Damage easily feels like the weakest role, but in OW2 things might just be TOO easy for them. Their interactions with Tanks and other Damage aren’t problems, less defenses just means you have to be able to take and win duels. The problem is that the support class isn’t really made to duel and is essentially always at a disadvantage in a situation where they have to directly confront an aggressor, which is WAY more often in OW2.
