[OW2] Will Competitive Open Queue have Role Limits?

I’d genuinely be interested in seeing a version of Open Queue that has:

  • 5x Players per team
  • 1x Maximum Tank Per Team
  • 2x Maximum Supports Per Team
  • 5x Maximum DPS Per Team

Would hit that nice sweet spot of having:

  • Flexibility
  • Good Queue Times
  • No GigaGOATs cheese

Additionally,

  • Have an entirely optional queue for Tank/Support
  • Which still puts them into the same games
  • But they get “first pick dibs” on Tank or Support. As opposed to “first come first serve”.
  • But if they wanna swap off an play DPS mid-game, they could still do that.

I think all non rq modes need is limit of 1 tank. I don’t think it needs a limit of 2 supports, as playing 3/4 likely isn’t better than having dps anyways. Just plz limit modes to 1 tank so everything isnt just stack tanks for free wins.

I think that they should be buffing Supports until they are more popular, or it measurably becomes a “too much” problem.

So I don’t like that idea

Getting more Role Queue players into Open Queue instead, will help. But they need all the queue times reduction they can get, if they plan on having anywhere near 1x Support player for every 1x DPS player in Role Queue.

No but it should it definetely should.

Cant wait for 3 tanks 2 healers to ruin literally everyones game in OQ going to be more broken than Goats.
Imagine Winston, Dva, Doomfist, Ana, Brig good luck gamers.

Plus Open queue is just the opposite of Role queue being able to swap roles you can still do that with role limits.
Open queue is the openess to switch roles.

(Flex player btw before anyone says typical dps mentality or something stupid like that, 206 hrs support 200hrs healer 180 Tank I have about 30-50% of my hours on OQ and have played since late 2016.)

Then it isn’t open queue.

Stop trying to place limits on the no limits mode, thanks.

It isnt original OQ but its just going to ruin the gamemode if theres no limits on tanks.

And that isnt what OQ means
Role lock vs Non rolelock.

Open queue = The openess to switch roles.

With role limits you arent role locked you just cant have multiple tanks you can still switch between roles at any time.

Hey if 5,000 players gotta quit to reduce queue times which could save/gain 50,000 players.

Which option do you think Blizzard as a company would prefer?

Will open queue even still be in the game ?

The last blog post mentioned it twice. So yes.

The real question is how much GOAT Cheese will be allowed.

OpenQ will be a hard 3 tank 1 dps 1 healer non stop meta. People will just play whatever wins the most. I dont really find a point in OpenQ anymore.

this will not be much of an issue in mid-low ranks, and open queue t500 is less than 500 people half the time so the highest ranks aren’t very important. Three tanks three supports would be optimal even now in ow1 but nobody does it. usually there will still be many dps players in oq, so it will almost never end up 3 tanks 2 supports. 1 tank limit might still be good just incase.

That’s making the assumption that OW2 Tanks are as undesirable to play as OW1 Tanks.

Which I think we can all agree, isn’t the case.

kind of. they are more desirable to play but still i’d guess there were half as many people playing tank in the second beta as dps, and they’d just gotten a new hero at that point

The mega tanks’ll be an issue, but honestly just change each tank’s healthpool and we’ll be good.
