OW2 went 5v5 just to bring 6v6 back later

I think the devs had at least a full year or more of foresight with what was coming long before PvE was cancelled and the first story missions were released in the current season.

They knew the game would take an enormous hit after announcing the bad news, and in anticipation of this preemptively removed core features from the base game - in this case, 6v6 - with the intention of bringing these features back later.

If and when 6v6 is announced, this will bring back a huge influx of faithful players to the franchise. It might even be enough to revive Overwatch League. Many players will finally breathe their first long-overdue breaths of relief, and the beginnings of repairing irreversible damage to the game.

Repair the game in a fundamental way, and perhaps also repair the broken trust that has been damaged in the wake of things as they currently are. I think removing oneself from the game, as it is, allows for a perspective on this higher-dimensional chess we seem to be playing.

6v6 allows tank players to finally play what they want without being a detriment to the team when they are countered.

Reason why everyone is dropping tank or going to open queue is purely from getting tired of having to constantly swap. 5v5 requires tank players to play every tank. 99% of players do not do this and 99.9% don’t want to do this.

At this point 6v6 is what can save this game.

5v5 was an experiment, and it didn´t work out.
It had zero benefits.

Majority wants 6v6 back.

Former tank mains do not wanna play tank anymore.

Bring it back Blizz!
Keep 5v5 as a gamemode for the new kids on the block.

This is solely because the devs made tanks the most powerful slot on the team by a mile. Tanks are basically giant DPS heroes with 10x better defense, better CC, peels, strong ultimates, etc.

This is why OW2 matches are so heavily decided by tank diff. I mean OW1 matches were also decided by tank diff, but OW2 made it a 1-player problem.

so they’ll need to nerf some tanks because imagine orisa right now + ram or zarya .

We could do a rework to Ramattra and Zarya.

  • Ramattra: 400 HP + 100 Armor on transform
  • Zarya: 400 HP → 200 Health + 200 Shields, revert bubbles to individual cooldowns (no longer shared, 1 for self, 1 for projection)

just remove roleQ and you fix everything

I don’t mind 5v5 but it makes me not want to play tank, and I sure would love being able to play tank with my buddy again

I agree. I am just noticing that I no longer wish to play Tank at all.

And I’m mostly a Tank/Support player. I’d rather queue DPS now and not care about team synergy, etc.

I feel that if they did switch back to 6V6 but leave 5V5… it will confuse newer players

I believe 6v6 was just incompetence or a desperate attempt for a change after doing nothing for years. If it ends up returning back it will be due desperation. Also 6v6 alone won’t save the game. Not after shutting down OW1 and without any proper content.

You all act like everything gets better with 6v6. But we’d still have all the same issues and some more added just to maybe solve one issue.

Honestly i dont mind if they went 6v6 again. I never played ow1, so i would sure like to try it out. Im fine with it, as long as im getting matches in Role Queue quick play under 5 minutes.

Ram in open queue feels pretty good as is. 300 hp is pretty low and really emphasizes him as a being a “tempo tank” as blizzard advertised.

5v5 was rushed and not implmented correctly, It might have worked but most if not all heroes would need to be changed, some just number changes others full reworks.

The issue is that most heroes are still blanced around 6v6 and have hits made with 6v6 in mind.

fixing 5v5 would require more work then reverting to 6v6 and balancing the new heroes into 6v6

6v6 will never get back. Blizzard never accept their failure, just accept that.

Unfortunately we will have counterwatch forever until blizzard decide to make tanks useless

I enjoy tank in open queue. It’s actually great fun being able to utilise teamwork again meaningfully. One great example I have recently is when playing with a friend, me on Rein him on Ram. The simple act of us rotating abilities and shields to protect the rest of our team, honestly very satisfying when you consistently do it correctly.

Most of the time I main D.va in open queue because she’s unplayable in role queue. You see the instant swap to Zarya, Sombra Mei Sym etc. It’s a breath of fresh air.
