OW2 Redefining A Sequel

I am so glad Blizzard decided to do it… even if it was Kaplan’s original plan to go big for Overwatch 2 and do something completely different for a sequel style game to follow the original from this pathetic F2P game we got with -1 tank.

Now these people are going to be milking more pathetic people’s wallets to get them to spend $15 a month or every 2 months just to play a total of an hour and a half (maybe) of “story” missions.

These people spent 1 year working on genjis mythic skin, literally giving 3 different customizable skins plus a voice changer for him. The JQ skin is close… only get two skins with a voice changer and the kiriko, sigma skin are decent and they cant even bother trying to make a cool skin for the literal poster girl on the cover of the game. The character that literally brought MILLIONS of people to the game and play the game, they give a lack luster “mythic” skin, BUT PUT A TWIST! YOU GET these mini epic mythic skins BEFORE completing the BP!

I wished more people would wake up and stand up for their values, this is a joke. Pre paying for games, pre ordering games, buying from their shops, buying their virtual currencies… its a joke and I cant believe people actually feel good about buying this stuff to show off to strangers in game.

Im posting TotalBiscuits video again about Pre Ordering games, RIP TotalBiscuit, you were one of the best youtubers and one of the best level headed thinking people out there, I hope you found peace. His video is 10 years old btw… and the gaming industry is getting worse and worse, BPs are fine, for skins, voicelines, or extra things to ‘feel rewarded.’ But BPs are not fine trying to think that the BP is THE GAME.

Couldn’t agree with you more OP, it really makes me chuckle when people freak out about new skins or how much $$$ they’ve spent on OW2.

Take this new lifeguard Mercy skin for example, people are like; “OmG SO HyPe Im CoMiNg bACk tO OW2 So I CaN buY ThAt SkIn!!!”

The modern gaming industry has really spiraled downhill. It’s all about the microtransactions nowadays. I’ve been setting a day aside once a week to play N64/Ps2/gamecube etc… and I highly advise others to go retro.

Modern gaming is no longer about making a game. It’s about making a shopping mall.

I was watching some psychopath who said that gaming is dead and the reason is not because of microtransactions, but instead because they pander to woke people. He literally cried about the black FBI agent in Alan Wake and then demanded white representation with the claim that there was nothing during all of this Nu-E3. Like???

Do not get me wrong, woke people are annoying. But holy hell, when an actual racist shows up to play, I can almost see why they write off people who dislike woke stuff. Homie made fun of the actor for that magical Doom clone and said black women do not play games. :skull:

I digress, this was just a large tangent to argue that the business practices have ruined gaming. And to an extent all this pandering is part of that, but it does not really effect the quality of the game in the same way microtransactions or revolving door studios do. It is sad.

This is mainly a problem with MP games. I think single player games are as good as they’ve ever been.

Gollum is an extreme example, but the “Gollum effect” is present in plenty of modern single player games. Not to the extent worthy of the almighty Gollum, but it just is not the same. It is why everyone was hot for God of War. It stands out amongst a sea of mediocrity.

Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Tears of the Kingdom are certainly not mediocre. You chose the one notable bad SP game to make an example with.

Its kinda of amazing to think that it started with “Its just horse armor”.

Indie games? Yes
AAA games? Release an unfunished mess, release an apology letter written by chatgpt, take months to fix the game… profit

If we are splitting hairs, one of those is a game that is two decades old whose most notable changes are complying with the ESG. Tears of the Kingdom took half a decade to release a $70 expansion to Nuts and Bolts. Those are examples I would use to support the argument that the industry is dying.

I personally dislike From Softwares entire approach. It killed Eldin Ring for me, but I will admit that is more on me. I think complaining about unneeded remakes, censorship, and empty open worlds with bland sidequests is at least vaguely common. The game was good, but I honestly prefer the Overwatch teams direction and the very thought of admitting that makes sick to my godforsaken stomach.

Why? So I can pay money to play a game?

I like modern gaming, lol. OW2 gives you all the gameplay for free (well I guess except for PvE). How can you possibly not like that more than paying for a game?

I mean, let’s look at a classic like goldeneye on the n64. Back in the day, I had to pay full n64 game price to play it. If it was in todays market, goldeneye would be free, you’d just have to pay if you wanted different skins for different characters (which by the way, goldeneye just doesn’t have different skins). I mean, how could you say that’s NOT better?

You truly are beyond salvation :pensive:

I know! Anyone that likes video games is a shill!

how come street fighter 6 gave you two option grind ( not too long unlike OW2 ) for classic custom or you can just buy it

it just depend on the developer and publisher we all know activision blizzard is one of the greedy ones lol

This is kind of funny, i actually like the changed to 5s but OW2 has not gone well overall

Its like blizzard has been giving a lesson on how to piss off everyone these last few years

If you like modern gaming then more power to you my friend. But you make it sound like games today are free… but there’s only a hand full of free games available. If anything games today are even MORE expensive with that $70 price tag…

Now allow me to look at an example:

Madden '06 - Has career mode, minimum glitches, character creator, create a stadium, create a team, create a playbook, actual referees with mo-cap animations, split screen, custom stats…

Madden '23 - Has “franchise” mode, loaded with glitches, $70 price tag, pathetic character creator, microtransactions, gambling slot machine for player card rarity, no referees in game.

Just an example of how greedy modern gaming is.

Things are always going to become more expensive with inflation…

Well, some games are obviously going to be worse than others. There are plenty of $70 games that are just as good as games were back in the day though. Diablo 4 comes to mind…

And there are loads of f2p games that I wouldn’t consider to be “greedy.” I much prefer games that give you everything for free, with the option to purchase skins, over the old school model of, every game costs money to play.

I remember just playing demo’s of 1 level back in the day. Now whole games are free.

I personally don’t mind this part, because it is accompanied by advantages never recognized by the community such as the resizing of the queues (now EXTREMELY shorter than before) and that the f2p system is also a cross play to literally play with any friend even just to pass evenings with friends. that’s an honest boon, but I agree that this just doesn’t make a “2”.

and the technical conversion of two Gb of power that is almost never felt, also due to too many bugs in this data transfer from one version of the game. wow, sc2 and hots also had their technical reworks or monetization changes (including sc2 going f2p), but they didn’t need any extra numbers in the title to keep going. the real problem that makes ow2 morally unfair is monetization, which in addition to being excessive in its 20 dollars per skin (but also shameful cases like moira mime, an epic skin) pretends that even the old content deserves the excessive prices that exist now, creating real bad deals for old users who may spend too much on an outdated mercy witch.

here I totally disagree: to begin with, the judgments of these pve can only be made by seeing how it is and understanding WHAT is different from an archives. but even assuming that in the end it is a very small dlc… wake up, what has been done for years with narrative dlc? and when they are episodic, isn’t it true that the first chapters then convert them into ever cheaper bundles (as they are already starting to do to unlock the heroes of the first ow2 seasons)? starcraft is also an episodic franchise, until one day the base game became f2p and with the first part of the story free. and over time the other stories have also become cheaper, and do you know today how much the full game costs without considering the dlc dedicated to pvp? it also reaches €15 during the Christmas period, despite the fact that in the beginning each expansion cost something like €40 (for each expansion, and there are 3 of them after the base game).

based on this, why would spending 15€ specifically for a story mode be wrong? Sure, we can legitimately care about its replay value, but how wrong would it be to pay for it? are you telling yourself “it deserves that money with the original pve plans” or are you literally making personal claims on your disappointment with the franchise to say “you owe it to me for free”? go and see how the gaming market that offers lore works, and perhaps the only ow problem you can notice is just its horrendous management of the hype in “2” on the title. but certainly not the price set to see a pve made after the people who worked on it specifically.

are you too outraged about the franchise? don’t pay for what you don’t like. Easy. 20 for skin is bad. 15 for three mission + battle pass with possible discount after a year? Come on, you’re ridiculous!

I’m sad to say I was there when “horse armor” hit the scene. I did not buy that garbage. The same way I don’t ever look at what my characters are wearing. Fix your game. I’m not interested in playing dress up Barbie. I honestly couldn’t even tell you what skins my characters have on. Whatever comes default with the game. Same as the icon and etc.

yes, DLCs = Downloadable Content, which is what all the F2P stuff is, but for a period of time DLCs were at least a part of the game that you were willing to pay for that ADDED to the original game. DLCs were not one and done deals that you played for like 2 hours max. If they were, there would be an uproar about how lazy it was.

again, this all comes back to the damn people in suits wanting the pre order sales, the same video that I posted that TotalBiscuit made. Pre order sales ruined everything because all the companies know now is to promise promise promise and show something to get you to pre order it and they cash in on that and theyre richer and youre left with an unsatisfying gaming experience because the devs and the company has the money and they dont have to make or maintain that good experience anymore, they just have to make something long enough for the attention span to get your money then move onto the next game for you to pre ordre.
