Okay so, i have this friend who is stuck in bronze 5, and he has been stuck in bronze 5 for two weeks now. We have tried to rank him up for those two weeks, but no matter how good the placement matches are, he keeps on getting the same rank while i rank up. Just today we played the exact same amount of games, from a reset placement, we went 7 in 4, i got a rank up from it, but he did not, he was still stuck in bronze 5. I really dont think it’s fair at all.
Note: He does not play like a bronze 5. I am a plat 3 support who has been diamond in the recent seasons, he plays on even ground with the tanks i q up with on a normal basis

let it go with this SR bs already…the system os obviously just beyond broken
we are not talking about jumping from bronze 5 to gold, we aint talking about jumping from bronze 5 to silver…we are talking about maybe at least go from bronze 5 to bronze 4 with all these wins…but even that aint happening…no progress at all

I have the same issue, I didn’t really play over watch 1. It doesn’t seem to matter if you win 7W- 0L or 21W -5L. You stay Bronze 5, if there is some magic other thing you are suppose to do I don’t know it, I’ve even tried pulling out a gun more often on Mercy. I’ve ranked checked about 12 times never leave Bronze 5. I figure going 21 and 5 would be worth a rank up or 7 wins and 0 Loses. I don’t know what SR is but doesn’t seem to be a stat anymore.

If they were <500SR in Overwatch 1, of course they aren’t going to rank up after a couple wins.

Have you tried playing a hero with greater carry or damage potential?

dont you see how dumb and useless this system is if its true? thats like if in heartstone you were last bronze level and instead of getting a star for your next win you somehow have a negative 10 stars you need to fill out first to start ranking up…thats just bonkers…bronze 5 should have a fixed floor out of which you can reach next rank with 7 next wins, not having to grind some imaginary SR that by your logic then even has you under bronze 5? did i get that right?

I agree that it’s silly, but that’s due to the 1500sr bronze range instead of it being 500sr like every other rank.
If Overwatch 2 uses the same number of ranks then bronze is still going to account for 3 of the lowest rank tiers. It doesn’t necessarily mean that the ranking itself is broken.

of course its broken…having a system where people at the noobest rank/level dont see any even a tiny bit of their progress at all for weeks with a positive win rate is indeed an extremely broken one

I’m playing support? I play Ana and avg 14k healing a match with 10-15 kills and 20-40 assists. I’m constantly getting saves and helping the team get kills with the anti healing. What else do they want. Most of the other supports aren’t even playing as support they go Moria and just dps the whole time. But from what I understand most people in Bronze 5 are all stuck like this. Its not a me problem is a system problem.

What is SR? people keep saying I have to get that up but there is no number for that? I didn’t play OW1.
SR was a number which dictated your rank in Overwatch 1 as opposed to the “Tier” rankings that we have now.
0-1499sr was Bronze, 1500-1999: Silver, 2000-2499: Gold, 2500-2999: Platinum, 3000-3499: Diamond, 3500-3999: Master, 4000-5000: Grandmaster.
For every rank that isn’t Bronze, Each “Tier” in Overwatch 2 accounts for around 100sr. (Gold 5 is 2500-2600 sr, Platinum 1 is 2900-3000 sr)

so why is all of this hidden then and why did they then change to 7 wins system if they actually still just use the old system but its hidden? you have 0 ways to track your progress or having the game tell you what you did right or did wrong to actually rank up…only speculations by people like you on the forums. and you still say this system is good and fun?
Dealing damage and creating opportunities for your team is also your role as a support.
If you’re truly stuck in Bronze, I assure you that it has something to do with your play.

source? i need confirmation that you aint just making this up
Play on his account or order the boost, there is no bug
The reason they implemented the 7-win, 20-loss update system was to alleviate some stress of seeing a number go up and down dictating your immediate rank after every match on ladder. Instead, the periodic ranking update is to show an “overall performance” since your last rank update. This basically makes it so that losses don’t feel as harsh.
You can, on a very basic level, compare how well you did compared to the opposing players by using the scoreboard and can review your play along with mistakes you made under Career Profile>Replays.
If you are still struggling to improve there are plenty of basic positioning, decision making, playstyle guides on Youtube to help you out. These are extremely useful for any new player.

we are talking about bronze 5 people not being able to reach even bronze 4 with a positive winrate, not about a platinum player not being able to carry someones account out of bronze 5

Source for what? You didn’t reply to anything.

They are unable to reach bronze4 because bronze5 is 1100 SR wide. Thus, you need +40 wins above loses to beat that number flawlessly.
