OW2 needs more damage mitigation

Now that there’s one less tank on the field and Double Shield isn’t even a possibility (unless you count Brig), I think Tanks as a whole should have stronger team-oriented defenses. Less defenses hurts the support role the most since they can’t get peeled as much (and they’re the role most in need of peel) and the amount of damage flying around that doesn’t get mitigated at makes it stressful to keep their team up.

So I was working on an idea.

Basically give every Support a Lucio heal aura, but it’s only 15hps in a small 4m radius, only heals teammates, and is only active when the Support player is on the ground.

Enough to heal up some chip damage, especially when combined with aura from other aura healers or the payload.

Which would make it so a Support player can focus on more interesting things like “death preventing heals”, damage, or utility.

Oh and by having teammates stand right next to a Support, they will reactively shoot back and defend from attackers, in a way that will automatically peel for Supports.

Also unlike ideas like “give everybody regen”, this version doesn’t help flankers or offangle snipers.

the only damage mitigation you need is fine. Learn how to be hard to hit without a shield noob, if youre getting dove swap to anti dive like brig moira lucio

This is intended. OW2 Changes are made to make the game faster, the TTK lower and Supports unable to keep their teams up for extended periods of time without repositioning/backing out.

Mmmm…I am not against this idea, but I’d prefer the bulk of healing to be an active choice I’m making. Lucio is fun because of his movement so I don’t mind his aura, but I hate inspire. It’s such a boring healing mechanic, and it’s part of why Brig feels so slow to me (in OW1). If she had more repair packs, and had to focus more on deploying them rather than just passively healing while flailing her flail at everything, she’d feel more fast-paced I think.

Look at it this way. Supports spend so much time healbotting in OW2, that it’s difficult to find time to shoot stuff.

And a lack of shooting stuff cuts into how fun the role is perceived to be.

So the point of an aura heal, is to allow Supports to do more than just heal bot.

Fair point, and it would definitely help with that. I just don’t want the healing parts of the kit to feel obsolete so it feels like I never have to heal my team (although ttk seems super low in OW2 so it might end up balancing out). Throw it at the wall, see if it sticks.

You did see what they did to moira, no?
If that is the way how they are trying to solve things, better not do it at all.

Part of me hopes Fox-Girl is release-Brig broken. I just live for drama some days.

I dont want to DPS as a support, i find it boring thats why i almost never play damage heros, i live Mercy, i just wish she had more utility to support the team, healing and utility would be a perfect hero for me, let my teammates do damage while i keep them up and help them kill better with utility

I know you’re right, but I still don’t understand why Blizzard thinks teamfights need to be quicker, of all things. Overwatch is already difficult to follow as-is; OWL is showing us exactly how impossible an even faster-paced game is to keep track of.

Because they already stated that this is an FPS and they will focus more on the natural aspects of that game, not MOBAS. No more CD vs CD, no more poke damage and Aoe/Trash/melee damage till someone makes a mistake etc.

If you watched OWL goats, it was even worse. Because its all CDS and people smashing against each other in melee range. Here with OW2 you can clearly see who is winning the engagement and why.

Supports are healbotting way less in OW2 because they only have one tank to sustain, which means they have more opportunities to make offensive plays. Pretty much every support content creator is in agreement about this from what I’ve seen. They’ve been discussing it in vids since beta 1. But here’s where things get weird…

Many times in my matches (and others are saying this as well), at least one support was beating at least one DPS for damage. And Zen, Bap and Moira were often pretty close to the DPS–and I’m not talking low damage DPS like Sombra or Tracer either, but rather heroes like Soldier, Sojourn, Hanzo, etc.

So that means supports are now making up some of the damage lost by the removal of the second tank. There may be more damage floating around than Blizz anticipated, at least in casual beta matches.

But in my opinion, the single biggest problem in OW2 at the moment is that healing remains overtuned. It’s not as busted as I first expected, but I’d say it needs to come down by around 15% overall.

And that is what makes ow2 way less interesting for supports. Reason that caused the support population decrease because go play dps or because stop playing the beta since is not cool.

Some people say “adapt to the new playstyle, even if is less fun than OW1 to you” to supports players… Why should someone keep playing something that now feel less fun? Instead I would change into dps or fat dps… or go and play to a different game.

If blixx keep following this path (and after fox girl fever turn down) we will see 15 min qué for non support players haha

Yea lets give everyone the same things and make every supp therefore boring to play. You can just make a new game at this point because all you is just killing what the game originally stand for.

You know how you can avoid getting deleted? Try using natural cover. Walls and any form of map cover negates 100% damage lol. Stop crutching on barriers, I have no issues playing ana, bap, moira, zen because I actually stay near walls to avoid getting melted in case my tank dies or has the barrier broken.
