I know that using the number 2 is for the future story mode, but knowing that this game’s PVP will be free for those who have overwatch 1, which is an improvement in every way of everything from the previous game, although it is not complete yet, but, knowing that once OW2 is done, the 1 is theoretically going to be replaced and become unplayable, I’d suggest changing the name of the game to something like Overwatch Reborn or Reloaded, and name the story mode as something like Overwatch “New Era”, and they both fit the game well, or thats what I think at least, since overwatch is reviving in the lore of the videogame too.
I’ve loved the game since it came out, and it really hurt me to see it drop so low for various reasons, and while I think you’re doing pretty well to revive it so far, I think at least this decision would put behind the comments that you’re, “selling”, the same game, and a lot of hate is due to that 2, which all of us would relate to a completely different game.
That would be all, I know that my level of English is not perfect, but if many people agree with this and Blizzard notices it, maybe the game will get better reception in future betas and content in general, and it doesn’t have to be the names that I suggested of course, but something similar maybe. Thank you!

              I would say no.
I have never heard someone hating a game or a movie because it has a number in its name. To me that tells that the first one was popular enough to deserve a sequel and i also know instantly how many sequels there are without having to do any extra research.
For example i’m willing to bet that not many people here have ever played the original Team fortress, which is a completely different kind of beast compared to the one we are playing now.
But on the other hand words like Reborn and reloaded are one of the most commonly used names for movie sequels when the producer decides that they don’t want to use numbers anymore, like Rambo movie series.
Also to me Reloaded (yes, you did say it wouldn’t have to be that, but something similar) sounds like an old game that is just patched to run better on newer computers kinda similar to what HD edition or Remastered is.

Which explains why there’s eight puppet master movies

I never said they have to great success, but someone made enough money that they wanted to make another one for some reason

I don’t mind the 2……what I do hate is when a series uses a numbering convention and then stops……
Like say god of war…2….3…god of war…

Or like Battlefield series where it goes all over the place and its impossible to know which is the latest one without doing some research.

Yeah, there’s really no reason why it shouldn’t have been called “God of War 4” when it’s in direct continuity with the rest of the series.
I honestly think game developers do that out of misplaced concern that newcomers will be less likely to play games if they know it’s an entry to an established series. Meanwhile, new gamers are born all the time and have been jumping into established series without hesitation for decades now, so if that were a legitimate concern than sequels woukd consistently undersell, not break records.
So yeah, “Overwatch 2” works just fine for me.

I mean, obviously it’s not “2.” But, they are trying to sell their PvE DLC so, whatever.

When it comes to live service games, I tend to hate the number system. I want the game to feel like a world that keeps evolving and putting a chapter pin in it kind of makes it feel like it has a shelf life
“Destiny 2” could really just get a more complete “Destiny” or “Destiny: expansion_” / etc. The number just makes it feel clear that they didn’t plan this all at the beginning of the franchise and are stuck with it for licensing reasons.
Overwatch’s situation feels a bit messier by comparison…

now imagine puppet master movies but each time new comes out old becomes unwatchable =)
tho current naming is bad for marketing not because of numbers but because it will somewhat misguide users…
even streamers are using OW instead of OW2 game name for streaming OW2 beta
so it definetly needs separate game name atleast for coop mode to be more visible to potential users who can be interested in searching content related to specific game mode on platforms like twitch

I honestly don’t see the connection between the number of the sequel and the watchability of the movies.
If you are trying to argue that overwatch2 needs another name because it makes overwatch obsolete then than say so.
Yes, the ow2 is going to replace the ow1, but i it seems most people seems to have the problem with it been called overwatch 2, if it were just labeled as an update we wouldn’t have this much arguments if it were were just ow1.5.
