It would be great if they could give us a toggle for it so that we may choose to do it the proposed way, or allow for people to turn that off and do it using the current setup.
I could also see them just increasing the window slightly so that it is easier for new players. I have taught several people how to do it in less than 5 minutes, it is just more about showing people that it exists and having them notice when to press space.
I also kind of wonder if they couldn’t just write a blurb in her F1 panel that states that if you press crouch and GA together that the skill is activated. The only issue that would still remain an accessibility issue for those who have difficulty utilizing several buttons due to a mechanical/physical barrier.
They have commented that it will go without buttons and only if you go to someone… a brutal nerf, another one on the list for Mercy, thanks devs.
What do you have to escape from someone? You won’t be able to then because according to what they say the jump will become automatic, it’s even worse, much worse.

They mentioned that it may not be the answer, they are just going to try that. I don’t think it would be too crazy difficult to add a toggle in the menu similar to how the GA target toggle exists.
Agreed, SJ is a niche jump that you do sometimes, even though I know how to SJ on command and have been doing it for years, I will sometimes go entire rounds without using it once. Having to cancel it after every single time I initiate GA will honestly be prety fricken terrible.
I want to keep an open mind about their new test but…it seems so OBVIOUSLY wrong. The single most basic principle of gaming is that you press a button to make your character do something. You don’t press a button to make your character not do something.
Maybe I’m wrong but this seems like another classic 50% lifesteal style Blizzard moment of insanity. I think they’re going out of their way to make it function differently than Sojourn’s cancel for the sole purpose of making it function differently than Sojourn’s cancel – but at the expense of common sense and good practice.
Imagine if you had to press a button to make Soldier’s helix rocket not automatically fire while expending the magazine… Some concepts are so blatantly incorrect they don’t warrant testing.
Yes, they do not listen to the community at all, she needs benefits and they give her the opposite, it is as if someone within the OW Team sincerely hated mercy and wanted to leave her totally destroyed so that no one would use her and become the worst hero of whole set… this with Jeff would not happen.
This isn’t intuitive, it just leads to players accidentally doing the wrong thing because it’s all tied to one button and holding or tapping it. How long is holding it? how long is tapping it?
This is worse than the Dev’s suggestions so far.
The difficult part about superjump is the Crouch + GA part since it needs to be done in quick succession. The simplify it I think it would be easier if either:
Using guardian angel while crouch triggers the superjump version, jumping when you reach your ally propels you upward, using guardian angel while uncrouched triggers the regular version.
OR
Make it so she has another ability called superjump that activates the Crouch + GA combo and shares its cooldown with GA.
The reason I don’t like the Dev’s suggestions is that they change how it functions whereas it is currently fine how it functions. The only difficult part is the intiial button combo.
And how does this work when you consider toggle Guardian Angel Settings?
When you hold shift again does it cancel the GA, does it do superjump? How does it tell?
I guess they would need to make the “mixed” method be dependant on if you press shift a second time, and then release it before coming in proximity of the targeted teammate.
Where it wouldn’t do the cancel until the button release.
Where as if you are in proximity of the targeted teammate, holding down the button or a second button tap would result in a SuperJump.
But the reason superjump is inaccessible isn’t because people can’t press jump to go up, it’s the initial “GA + Crouch” combo that has to be pressed in quick succession. That just needs to be made into one button press
So pressing guardian angel, moves towards an ally as normal, cancelling with jump slingshots you past them.
Pressing the other key (Reload, Interact, or something else), activates the superjump version of guardian angel, where you move to the ally and pressing jump at them propels you upward.
Both would share the cooldown, just different buttons. So the two types of guardian angels are still possible and the inaccessible part is solved.
The problem the devs are trying to fix removes half the need and all of the skill out of superjump.
You can manipulate the height of superjump depending on when you press jump but the devs keep removing this and making uses like superjump res impossible. Instead of just, manipulating the initial button press to create the same results. They’re solving the wrong problem
That probably covers everything. But the most important ones are:
Superjump
Slingshot
Those are the 2 that make all the other techs possible so just keeping them keeps them all
Slingshot - Pressing jump while using guardian angel propels you forward with momentum
Superjump - Crouch + guardian angel in quick succession, pressing jump near your target will propel you upward, depending on when you press jump, determines the height.
The odd thing in my mind is that the Devs took the basic function of superjump, and gave it to Sojourn. She slides close to the ground, and hits space when she wants some elevation. So they know how to make it work simply.
Just have it so when Mercy GAs to a target, she can hit the spacebar anywhere along the path, and the closer she is to the GA target the higher she goes. They could even leave in the crouch before GA as an option, in case you want the low GA flight (to slide behind cover).
Then she’d still have SJ that works similar to the OG SJ, but wouldn’t require the crouch (but could still be added in), and she could still bunny-hop when needed, instead of always shooting straight up into the air like in beta.
My underlying questions for the devs thought…Why does the character with some of the best mobility in the game, and who survives off of it, need her mobility tweaked/broken? Why don’t you fix the delay in her weapon swap first, so she can actually do more DPS more easily in your more DPS focused update? Or why can’t you fix the fact that her beams break from her target when she activates her ult? Maybe work on those first please IMHO.
