I feel like whilst mauga is pretty decent right now especially with his recent buff but i feel like with how mauga is he is just constantly in a state of needing balance adjustments due to his design being pretty bad.
Suggestions for mauga
Chainguns:
- Damage reduced from 4 to 3.5
- Spread for firing both weapons reduced by 15%
This intention gor this is to bslance mauga’s damage on tanks but help mauga hit lower hp targets i did not wanna just buff his dmg on lower health heroes so i think this is a fair adjustment.
Cardiac overdrive:
- Remove the lifesteal on mauga
- Grants mauga a heal per second of 85
- Lifesteal for teammates is now 50%
Comments here so this may be a weird change however with lower dmg and new health pools i feel like with mauga cardiac overdrive simply is the ability that breaks mauga however it is very easy to counter this makes it less counterable aa well dps passive will make it more difficult for mauga. I chose not to adjust his dr due to the ability being harder to counter plus its a team ability as well. All this chsnge does is help him not be made useless against dva and sigma. Ow2 was meant to remove hard counters yet mauga is awful against these heroes to a point where mauga gets little value. This change nerfs his team utility but inproves his match up and its easier to balance a hps heal than lifesteal as with lifesteal u need high dmg or its bad but high dmg can make u op.
Passive may need to be buffed to 60% pretty sure it is 50% but with the lower tankyness mauga may need buffs.
I just think making mauga more versatile is healthier improving his match ups but also making his strength less potent will make him healthier to fight but also to play besides if the heal is too low it always can be adjusted
I do like that idea as it also gives Mauga a flat hps from overdrive which means he DOESNT have to bully the tank to take advantage, and this is a win in all manners of gameplay.
It may mean his regen is impossible to reduce outside anti and dps passive, but overall I think it places balance in the right spot.
This would also leave room to tune the life steam for his team separated from himself, so he can function more tank like for his team with the ability. Example- Mauga later on underperforms and they decide to buff his team play by buffing life steal for his team to 65%.
Or they buff the duration of lifesteal and it doesn’t lead to Mauga just slamming the enemy tank against a wall in battle effortlessly because his regen isn’t crazy like it used to be, it’s just consistent.

You’re going to nerf his poke damage that way. Instead of lowering damage per shot, lower his rate of fire during dual chaingun usage (and then reduce spread).
Not sure an autoheal during cardiac overdrive is a great idea, since he could dip into cover and heal like Roadhog.

I’ll be blunt, I don’t like either of these.
Maugas damage is already on the brink of being somewhat terrible. I’d rather his field presence be defined by two chainguns rather than an OP and annoying lifesteal passive.
The Cardiac overdrive should honestly be a reverse Wrecking ball shield ability so that it encourages him to be aggressive

My suggestion: revert his buffs from the last patch, buff his damage to 5. He already wasn’t terrible but now he’s just a god again

Just disable the hero honestly. Such a stupid character.
The heal rate actually balances it more sonthan lifesteal.
Think about it logically mauga is a tank who relies on lifesteal and has to do high damage in order to sustain himself.
Hog has a heal rate and cannot attack.
Outta of the two hogs sustain is way easier to balance as with mauga yoy constantly have to adjust his dps and lifesteal percentage to make him good.
If mauga has a heal rate as i mentioned it yes would mean he can heal behind cover and inturn will mean mauga will be better against his hard counters which are sigma and dva. However it means the devs can lower his damage and adjust it so he cannot just be a beefy tank buster tank which is much healthier for ow2.
Mauga since release has always and i mean ALWAYS been great at killing tanks due to his poor design and that is due to how he sustains himself nerfing his dmg and giving him a heal per second is gonna feel much better to play against since the heal will not feel as powerful and he will not have to kill you as fast due to lower dps.
