OW2 leveling system

*Yes we all know that we don’t know anything about this new game, it’s purely a possible outcome based on the leaks

If it’s a Left 4 Dead type of game then wouldn’t it be better for the leveling system to be in-match rather than for a general RPG leveling system?

That way the progression is constant because it will reset every match.

Just my opinion, but that seems like it would be more suited for online pvp games, like League where everyone starts out the same each match, and you can alter that with in-match leveling and item buying

I personally 100% prefer long term permanent progression in a game if it’s gonna be mostly/all PVE like leaks suggest

It’s used in TF2 Mann Versus Machine which is PvE… works perfectly fine

Perhaps the levels become more difficult over time and so the later levels require the upgraded talents to make good progress.

Also for all we know the leveling system could actually be per match. It might be more of an MvM style game mode and you gain XP/levels and pick talents between waves (instead of using money to buy upgrades).

The problem I always have with leveling in games is if:
-The progress being linear, no important decision choices need to be made.
-You hit a ceiling where you just become one-punch man basically.
-Enemy and player levels scale the same, so you either avoid it (Like FF8) or the whole system comes pointless numbers.

I really think they should have more upgrades in different things like health pool, speed, damage and make it so the player has to think and choose what type of load-out they want and having it in the middle of battle to force urgency in the choice.

This one I’m not sure I strictly agree with. It depends on the implementation, but if the leveling provides you with a talent tree as opposed to a linear set of learnable talents then the advantage becomes that you get to choose a unique playstyle that you like the most, which keeps things interested for the user even though they’re not technically gaining an advantage over the duration of the game. It makes the game different and interesting over time without making it easier.

But yeah I’d agree it would be cool to have a more in depth upgrade system. We should probably wait a few days to even see what the game is before speculating too much, though
