Even if so, why are the account services untouchable? They all work for the same company. This issue is worth fixing even if it takes weeks or months of dev time, which I very much doubt it would.
I mean you’re talking to a guy who does database stuff for a living, and explaining to me that data on databases isn’t a thing, and only data on the front-end of a website portal exists.
You didn’t answer my question. Blizzard game developers obviously collaborate with the Battle.net teams on those features all the time. Battle.net exists only to serve the games. So if a game desperately needs a fix, they can prioritize it.
You is talking to an graduated IT dev and software systems analyst, and working in realtime multiplayer games.
You saying that to try to lower people for your “better knowledge level” already presents a clear sign of toxicity, specially what SMS protection is fighting…
An exclusive modification to internal bnet services just for OW2 will cost many resources and many work-around to make this don’t break other games that uses from same core.
I don’t think you have any idea what you’re talking about regarding their database infrastructure in any way shape or form. That said, they are clear indicators of a legacy account within the game itself that could be used, so…
I find it ridiculous that you consider this change so difficult. Battle.net in isolation already has all the information about your account that it needs to make this change. I’m certain that they do more complex checks than this on a regular basis. This change has been in the works for at least a year. If they don’t make an exception for OW1 players here, it is not a technical limitation, it is a product decision.
Yes I agree, grandfathering in existing OW1 players would be great. I want to play OW2 with my brother but I use a landline and he has a prepaid phone.
Splitting up the playerbase like this is sad! I think everyone who wants to play should be able to if they have been longtime fans/players of OW1. If your account is in good standing, why should you be barred from participating?
But the radio silence from Blizzard makes it seem like they don’t care.
At the very least, we can voice our concerns and hope they see it.
Runescape u can login with your original username instead of an email if your account was made before a certain date and that game is hella old, so I’m sure it’d be possible for a much newer game
So if you “think i don’t have any idea what i’m talking about regarding their database infrastructure in any way shape or form” so ahead and open an lawsuit to blizzard remove this restriction. If you really have the courage to do this, in order to avoid spam posts complaining about SMS
Your question is a joke right? Modify a huge schema is problematic, wtf you are talking? Think how many replica shards will must receive same sync copy to database…
I’ve sent this for your in past, BUT you just ignored then i invite you read this again case study how to NOT modify a huge schema in an database. https://sqlstudies.com/2016/07/14/altering-a-column-in-a-large-table-a-case-study/
Because we already have a lot of smurf accounts from OW1 players? Because we want new OW2 players to be able to onboard without having to switch phone companies?
