In the context of that match, it’s still an indication of actions completed better than your counterparts in that match. Or even if not, just an indication of actions completed that are of note. I’m not talking about an overall number here, I’m not talking about comparing to people of your rank, I’m talking about just normal QP matches. If there are 4 supports in the match, they could be recognized for how well they did in that match compared to the others. Same goes for the dps players. Or the tanks. If Dva managed 16 mecha bomb kills in the match, versus the enemy Dva who maybe only got 2, that’s a cool stat and she should be recognized. If a support healed 75% of the team’s damage, that’s impressive and I’d want to see that.
Look, it’s a game. We’re not talking about actual life achievements here that mean anything, we’re talking about a video game and how to make playing it more engaging and exciting and satisfying for the players. If you play a match and win and then go on to the next one, fine, that’s cool, boring, but fine, however humans like pats on the back, they like to see their achievements displayed, so even in the context of a 10 minute chunk of time in a silly cartoon video game, people are more likely to enjoy their time if they have some sort of accomplishment to look forward to at the end of the match. It doesn’t have to mean anything, it’s just a fun thing at the end of the match to make it feel more complete. Like your time meant something.
The medal system in game caused toxicity, true, but the card system was just a fun little addition that made Overwatch feel like Overwatch and not some other game.
If the scoreboard exists, then the medals can too. It does nothing of importance either and imo should really just be shown at the end of the match instead of during.

lets not forget too how terrible the POTG is now. I have had multiple quad or triple kills and yet the POTG is a Rien charge that kills one dude

End game cards were cool as it gave some highlight stats after the match, not just POTG that everyone skips anyway.
Player borders were cool too as it was another form of progression. Battle pass just doesn’t scratch that itch.

uh… I guess I disagree with with 12400 people lol none of these are an issue for me if anything the tab menu being a bit odd but everything else seems inconsequential to me and to be honest it’s the adverse to change mentality, the game changed and you’re going to have growing pains with it, you were used to the way things were for 6 years, of course you’ll see the things that are missing but are they really even necessary?
ending the chat as soon as the game ends is one of the biggest and most effective toxicity measures they implemented, most people would wait to see their cards only to be met with all kinds of insults in chat because people can’t lose with grace, they have to trash talk in order to make themselves feel better, so now you only have like a minute to let it out, better type fast

no end cards? leaderboard.

They’ve stated they intend to add the fire system back in eventually (and I believe the on fire lines actually still play in-game, it’s just that the HUD indicator is gone)
Let’s be honest, 99% of the time those didn’t display anything relevant/impressive. You could get 10k healing and 5 gold medals as Zen and get a card for 3 defensive assists.

the players…? you get no rewards for playing without the battlepass lmao
OW2 doesn’t pad players confidence by giving them misleading and false information.
That is all right and just. People who suck should be told they suck.
Everybody has the battlepass and it has free portions.
You don’t get lootboxes anymore, but you still get rewarded with loot for playing well. You get more XP for winning still, which gets you more progress towards BP levels. The challenges also attempt to capture aspects of performance, which grant BP progress too.
Medals: I have GOLD HEALING as hog, wtf???
End Cards: only like 2 people on average who actually stays for the cards.
Boarders/Rank: You have platinum boarder and you’re still in gold? Hardstuck LMAO.

im surprised they even kept play of the game at all
player stats just feel so hollow, you cant even see your own competitive rank without going into your career profile, comp games are just qp games without hotjoining
OW2 is much more honest about showing how you perform. OW1 medals, cards, on fire were designed to make you feel good about playing average. Like rewarding stickers to kids at elementary school for doing a ‘good job’ with their assignment.
The scoreboard is great, it shows your own performance, your team’s performance and performance of the other team all at a glance. I finally can see how I am really doing instead of having to guess if this gold medal of mine actually means I am doing well or just means we all s_ck equally much.

Considered how bad was all of this things, not a real lose.
Overwatch 2 directly reward your skills in game, better players have more possibility to show their skills.
I prefer concrete reward in gameplay, the matches, than some medal which many times mean nothing and was even deceiving.
They really need to change the tab screen back to left and right. Feels so weird and slow to look at the current layout design.
Should also add more rewards for the f2p in the battlepass. Or at least for people who had OW1. Most, if not all the f2p rewards is trash.
I completely agree and imagine that I bought ow1 for a ridiculous amount of money… And then make ow2 free to play… and those who paid for it get nothing for it… + those coins? WTF?! So Blizzard wants to say… that we have to pay to have skins? It would be better to leave the loot boxes there… maybe just for winning once a day… or to earn coins normally… and not pay for it… It will save a hell of a long time for one Battle pass… I would prefer got a refund for ow1… GG Blizzard… you are dead… for my eye… THX for 20 years entertainment.

The new round screen sucks. Also aren’t maps supposed to have day/night cycle?. I want Watchpoint at night and EL Dorado at night.

I’m sorry, but I do think needing medals and upvote cards to validate you is actually clownery
Haven’t thought about that whatsoever.
They had to remove all that because any sense of achievement or skill in this game gets weaponized and then a few thin-skinned zoomers cry the game is toxic, so yes, this change was made to appease thr crybabies.
