The biggest problem with FPS games is the demand for the newest tech “Pay to Win” factor.
We need to limit the P2W factors by having a 120hz cap to expand the player pool for lower-spec PCs.
No other Competitive game does this, however, if you think about the most popular game in the world, League of Legends does not benefit from a higher hertz display like FPS games do.
This allows them to cater to all wealth brackets in society. Call it inclusivity.
Right now Blizzard does not provide equal access for all gamers but only panders to the rich. A $1 shared by a billion people is more than $10 shared by a million people.
Limiting the FPS will also increase the visual resonance associated with a higher in-game resolution setting.
Thereby enhancing the streaming quality and allowing E-Sports to look new and refreshing.
Because honestly right now OW2 does not look different from OW1.
I’m sorry but this is just a terrible idea, why would you punish people with good hardware?
Besides, having a good PC set has always been a part of gaming, I’ve never heard of another “serious competitive game” limiting how good a players monitor can be.
I play at 144Hz and honestly it hasn’t affected my gameplay at all. The server runs at 60TPS so you’re honestly not going to get any additional information from the server at anything above 60fps regardless. It’s almost entirely cosmetic beyond 60fps
While refresh rate is no doubt important, getting your input lag as low as possible is the real struggle.
Not all monitors can archive 5ms or below input despite being 120-144 hz.
The difference between 120 and 144 is so minute that they’re effectively the same.
Having hardware that maintains your frames at 120 and above as well as the monitor + input devices being 5ms and below is what’s most important.
It’s very much an advantage
IMO, higher framerate / hz doesn’t necessarily make you better. What it does is make the game smoother and puts less strain on your eyes, and thus allow you to perform at your best for a longer period of time.
So if you did not have the skills to begin with, you will not see any improvements. If you do have the skills but get worn out quickly due to eye strains, then you will see an improvement with higher framerate.
If you’re playing a game on 30 fps, than switch to a device that can perform 144 fps, the game animations is so smooth it feels like everything is so clear and in slow motions. At least this was the experience for me when I improve my hardware.
This is a pretty wild take that really shouldnt ever happen. Overwatch runs well on lower end pcs already, a few frames wont make a massive difference especially for the vast majority of the player base. For most players frames wont matter as much as practicing aim, positioning, and just about any other gameplay aspect of game knowledge. Why punish people who like to have higher frames and build pcs to make that happen when its mostly just a visual difference.
