It is obvious that the game is in maintenance mode. It has essentially been abandoned, like Heroes of the Storm, except they didn’t announce it.
Seeing Necro’s video today on the new tank buffs makes it abundantly clear, that the devs are not playing the game, but are only doing the absolutely bare minimum to “keep the game fresh”. Ramattra even has a bug, where all his cooldowns are 11 secs. How can anything like that slip through QA?
It can’t. The reason is, that there is no QA. In fact, there is as good as no resources for this game.
This also means, that there is no way they can go back to 6v6. The resources are not there for such a move.
See you all in Marvel Rivals or that Valve game.

You realize that maintenance mode means that there’s no more content being made for the game and it’s just having its servers maintained right?
Starcraft 2 is in maintenance mode.
Heroes of the Storm is in maintenance mode.
Overwatch 2? Is not. We know Season 12 is coming with a new hero, we know there’s a new gameplay mode coming down the pipe. You’re wrong chief.

It is very obvious how little effort is being put into this game. If this patch doesn’t convince you, nothing will. The half-assedness of it is just staggering.

Again, not maintenance mode.
The literal definition of ‘maintenance mode’ means no new content is being made for the game. That the majority of the developers are moving on to other projects and only a small team will remain to maintain the servers and do the occasional balance patch.
We know Overwatch 2 is getting more content in the future. So you’re flat out wrong.
This patch was a mid-season balance update. Every season thus far has had one. It’s nothing special.

You call reskins development?
I don’t.
Show me a link to your definition of maintenance mode.

That’s a link discussing the Gearbox game, Battleborn, which was a hero shooter that shut down in 2021. The game was in maintenance mode for 4 years.
Gearbox has announced in a new post by Creative Director Randy Varnell on the Battleborn site that active development has ended and that he is moving off to a new project. It will not close, but simply go into “maintenance mode”. The final update will be deployed in the near future. Afterward, a small team will address emergency bugs and keeping servers in shape.
Once active development on a game ends, the game goes into maintenance mode. This is well known to folks who have functioning brains.

Ya well, as far as I can see, Heroes of the Storm is still getting balance changes. So much for your definition
Blizzard is not Gearbox.
Tell me, when was the last time Heroes of the Storm got a new hero, a new map, or a new mode?
It’s not in maintenance mode. But it does feel like it’s a skeleton crew.
Or perhaps the game engine is so horrible and unoptimized that is severely hinders development.
Majora’s Mask was made in one year.
And all we get is 2-3 heroes and 2-3 maps? Does it take months just to have hero ideas greenlit from the bigwigs?

What we get is new skins, which is extremely easy to make.
Other than that we get balance updates, and that is about it.
I will reiterate:
What we saw today was a balance patch so half-assed and completely without playtesting, that it is OBVIOUS that very few resources are being poured into the game.
That is what I call “maintenance mode”. As far as I can see there is no clear definition of the term when it comes to games.
if you wanna experience a true maintenance mode, try playing tf2 and not getting any content update for like 7 years loooooool
overwatch isnt on maintenance mode…yet…

i mean a singleplayer game kind of notorious for the amount of speedrun glitches in it is not a great comparison to a semi consistently patched multiplayer “competitive” shooter

If you don’t count Sojourn, Junker Queen or Kiriko, we’ve gotten 5 new heroes in the 2 years that Overwatch 2 has been out, with a 6th hero coming later this year. Since Space Ranger is due to release before October, that means Overwatch 2 will have released more heroes in the 2 years it’s been out so far than Overwatch 1 did in the same time period.
Overwatch 2 also added new modes to the game, which Overwatch 1 never did in its entire lifecycle.

there’s a big difference between a patch you hate and being in maintenance mode
with the tanks buffs and armor adustment, it’s at least a middle size patch
you still get new contets and developer updates.
maintenance mode? that’s 2020 Oct. Overwatch ffs

Oh no, it is much more than that. You can not dismiss this patch as simply as me just disliking it.
It is genuinely not tested at all.
There is no way a proper test could leave Ramattra’s abilities all at 11 sec cooldown.
Not to mention the absurdity that Necros showed us with the new tanks.
Those speedrun glitches don’t happen to anyone who isn’t a speedrunner.
Speedrunners will find glitches in glitchless games, they’re a special kind of fanatic.
I think it’s an amazingly huge accomplishment that the entirety of Majora’s Mask, one of if not the best Zelda games with many hours of gameplay and replayability, to be made in just one year.
But saying that, it’s made by Nintendo in Japan so they probably worked 15 hours a day or more and slept in the office.
So you’re right it’s probably not a fair comparison.

True. So maybe it’s not a skeleton crew.
I do appreciate the new devs willingness to rework and change things. They seem more flexible than the old devs in that regard.
I wouldn’t really count Kiri or Sojourn because they were in development before OW2 release. Had they not stopped content on OW1 for the PVE stuff that was canned, we likely would have seen those heroes released in 2021.
But it’s still so slow. Back in OW1 also was also slow, you’re right.

slow but at least stable.
you can count on when new heros and maps are comimg out, gladly devs didn’t screw the pattern yet or at least with proper reasons
