Just wondering if the engine has been redone for stuff like hit detection and anti cheat.
They are constantly working to improve anti-cheat measures, however it is very important to report players you suspect of cheating. Be sure to do so in the in-game report form or send any information in an email to hacks@blizzard.com.
OW2 uses the same engine so even if there is an improvement it won’t be by a whole lot.
Once Anti-cheat improve, so will cheats over time.
Does it ? And what does the game’s engine have to do with anticheat.
Yes it does. And it has a lot to do with it. Same engine means the game continues to have the same weak points that are currently exploitable.
When was this stated ? I must have missed the devs talk about that.
Right but you have to remember there’s absolutely no such thing as an unexploitable code. Even if they were to “improve” their anticheat, cheat makers would just change their cheats in response. Not saying they should give up on improving their anticheat but there has to come a point where you just accept that cheaters WILL exist in any game and there’s no real way to prevent them 100% of the time. As long as there’s a market for cheats, there will be cheatmakers that will stop at nothing to create those cheats.
Even if tomorrow they decided to come out with a new and improved anticheat system or a new engine or whatever. The current cheats will have like 2 weeks of downtime, then they’ll be back on the market again.
Other counties like Korea understand this concept and that’s the reason why their gaming companies don’t go crazy trying to chase down cheaters, instead they implement laws against unethical hacking and are able to lawfully target and disband hacking organisations. That in my opinion is a much better way to deal with hackers than to just chase them away for 2 weeks for them to just come back with the same cheat under a new name.
I imagine some semantics are in play here. OW1’s engine was highly proprietary and they’re not going to develop or use a brand new one for OW2 as it would require rebuilding their entire asset pipeline and recoding everything from the ground up. So based on common sense and from various previews over the years that it’s just going to be a massively upgraded version of OW1’s engine.
Now as to whether someone wants to call it the “same” engine is really just up for debate. How much does something have to change before it’s considered new? Essentially it’s the “Ship of Theseus” philosophical question.
