Ow2 hero reveals dont feel the same

I dont know if its just me, maybe its because blizzcon hasnt been around, but it just seems like hero reveals felt much more excited back in OW1 compared to hero reveals we get in OW2.

i remember when they teased stuff in maps in game. Doomfist was semi teased way before when they were revealing Orisa by having the airport destroyed in Numbani. Also Not to forget how they teased Sombra by having the community go on this huge witch hunt until she was revealed at blizzcon.

I also remember when we would have 3 teasers for Wrecking Ball before he was released. And top of the they teased how his hamster room that is next to Winstons room was broken open. Moira was secretly shown in a comic i just forgot which one.

It just feels like we are not getting these kind of fun teasers anymore and its just a shame.

To be fair, can imagine noobs being more toxic if Life was annouced earlier.

I agree. The reveals are underwhelming. One of the ways that makes it underwhelming for me is that all the content creators are already in the know within 1-2 weeks or more in advance and so they aren’t as naturally excited with the community and exploring with the community. They just instantly un private their videos at once, and cite to check it out and act excited for the views which sometimes undermines the whole experience as a community.

There are also a lack of real teasers, lack of coherency with the information, lack of a central source. I saw some videos and clips on other sites randomly I don’t use before I saw it on the official site venues (or a lack of events). So, some people didn’t even know there was a Life Weaver short video posted until days later or they missed it entirely. And then the videos themselves aren’t that exciting or a bit on the ā€œcringeā€ side of things. Nothing really is pushing forward the stories either.

I think the lack of excitement and interest for new heroes is down to two factors.

  • in ow1 we didn’t have a roadmap for when new heroes would release so they where always dropped on us unexpectedly or hinted at over a long time. In ow 2 we know that we will have new heroes every other season, so it has just become routine.

  • Putting them in the battlepass doesn’t half ruin the excitement for a lot of people, knowing that to even play them in the modes they are designed for you have a list of chores to complete.

True. There is a noticeable lack of build-up, from a narrative standpoint.

Sure, they keep saying ā€œwe’re working on the PvE, but that doesn’t really explain why these new heroes (barring Rammatra) all felt non-existent.ā€

Look back at some of the others:

  • Moira - while she was dropped relatively out of nowhere, she did hint at ā€œthe Venice Incident,ā€ which became Retribution a few months later.
  • Sigma - who had very cryptic teasers still managed to produce one of the best origin stories to date.
  • Echo - was revealed back in the Reunion cinematic.

All these newer heroes don’t really add much to the existing lore, nor do they really have much significance:

  • Kiriko - has no connections to Overwatch (Genji & Hanzo probably haven’t even seen her since they were kids).
  • The Queen - while a legacy character, doesn’t really expand on anything, since Junkertown is pretty much self-contained.
  • LW - besides his really lackluster name, his ā€œimportanceā€ in biolight is rather tacked on, and is more-or-less adding more plotlines to the list of non-expanded upon ones.

I agree with all of this except maybe junkerqueen.

I could actually see her joining Overwatch with the upcoming threat with the Omnics for a few reasons.

  1. I could totally see JQ heard about Overwatch from Junkrat’s blabbering mouth.
  2. Being a leader within Australia’s Outback- she would probably feel compelled to help protect her people.
  3. She already has a severe mistrust of Omincs from her upbringing and this would compel her even more to join the fight.

Only true OG’s would remember the Sombra’s ARG. Those are the best hero reveal ever.

It’d be nice if there was more hype building, it got to the last week or last few days before any info about lifeweaver was revealed, they expected us to hype ourselves through speculation

Honestly, I’m still iffy about how they went about making The Queen’s narrative and lore.

It’s strange that in a mech-fighting arena, she was able to participate without a mech, among other things.

Honestly, rather than being a participant in the global stage, I’d rather her story be more localized.

Prior to her release, I thought she’d be the leader of the ALF, and seeing how her country betrayed her to the machines, she would seek to usurp Australia and become its ruling power. Perhaps Talon promises this to her in exchange for The Junkers being hired mercenaries for Talon?

I love reading comments like yours.

Overwatch lore is so good yeah I feel we are always starving for more.

Maybe it’s not a requirement for a mech? But it’s basically a suicide sentence if you fight in the arena but don’t have one. Probably another reason why she has such respect from the junkers.

Ofc It don’t feel the same. It’s much harder to care about new heroes when you know you will have to grind for 40+ hours to get to play it.

Even the biggest hype in the world won’t be able to save all the boring heroes that have been releasing lately.

True. I could just be a stickler for wording/phrasing: ā€œmech-fighting arenaā€ implies that it’s an arena for mechs to fight in. If they wanted a more freeform combat, it should’ve been worded as, ā€œAnything-goes/Gladitorial arenaā€ as that implies that… well, anything goes.

they did tease junkerqueen, kiriko, and ramattra alot… as well as echo.

its really just lifeweaver who came out of nowhere, and its very obvious now why that was… because he wasnt finished at all.
