[OW2] Easy fix for Open Queue

So as everybody should be aware, Open Queue, and other game modes that aren’t Role Queue are having a lot of problems with how strong Role Stacking beyond 1-2-2 is.

And I think it’s almost a fact the devs are going to be buffing Supports soon in a similar but less drastic way relative to Tanks. Because they kinda have to, to address Matchmaking.

That said, here’s a simple way to keep those two Roles from being too powerful in Open Queue:

Open Queue: Dynamic Balancing

  • 30% more damage taken for Tanks, for each Tank above 1.
  • 30% less healing given for Supports, for each Support above 2.

And there you have it. If a team wants to spam Tanks or spam Supports. They can. But it’s not going to be much more beneficial than just running 1-2-2 Compositions.

so you just made a indirect role queue to kind force people in open queue into an format?

This is what is funny about open queue and it´s players, they all end up at role queue one way or the other. It doesn´t seem bad tho, but it´s just role queue 2.0

Kinda.

But with mid-game role switching, tons of composition styles, good matchmaking, and good queue times.

we both know that aint working, only if you have a stack to play with. You´re probably gonna end up with multiple DPS and Tanks anyway

It´s a forced format of 1 tank max and 2 sup max, and there would be lot more balance problems because things would change radically if more than 1 tank were to be played. It would create more problems than it would fix

Open queue being in the game is living proof of why Role queue is the only decent alternative for this game

If they wanna build less optimal compositions, that’s fine. Just block the upper limit of how durable compositions can get.

I disagree. It just makes it so you don’t get an automatic advantage by spamming Tanks/Supports.

Which makes it so that a lot more composition styles are similarly viable.

I only really play RQ but: I wouldn’t want to pick a tank and then have my teammates basically sabotage me by also picking tanks. That sounds like a bad time to me.

How about you just play Role Queue?

Lets just remove dps heroes from open q.
At best rework some of them to tanks and supports, then remove those that could not be reworked.
No more reason to look for any “fix” because they dont like people playing multiple tanks what making OW always more fun.

As i said, at the end of the day you just end up with a worser role queue that has a fantasy of having more freedom but in the end it´s just going to create more conflict between teammates picks

And then people will argue mid match about who is gonna play what, because they cant play multiple tanks or supports

As if the enemy team that has to deal with Tank spam isn’t going to have similar issues?

Why would that be any consolation? We don’t play games to deny other people fun, we play them to have fun ourselves.

The thing is, you can´t possibly make so that a team with multiple tanks will have an equal chance of winning against a team that has 1 - 2 - 2

So, either people play 1 - 2 - 2 or they lose, because having more than 1 - 2 - 2 will punish the team. You literally ended up with role queue but it is decided by who picks it first

If the game is going to have a certain unavoidable baseline for complaining about roles. They might as well pick the one that makes the most players happy.

Dunno if you can get “equal”, but this change aims to make them near equivalent.

this is entirely unnecessary, and worse, it violates the spirit of what role-less queue mode is

no thank you

If its already hard to balance a 1-2-2 against a 1-2-2, imagine balancing whatever other possible composition against an 1-2-2. You´re will probably just end up with 1-2-2 being superior than everything else or creating even more balance problems

Well, I’m very much in a “Whatever leads to higher player retention is better”.

If that means some small groups of players get upset about it? Too bad.

Well something is always going to be best. That’s unavoidable.

But the idea is that there shouldn’t be that much gap between how viable each composition style is.

Yes, I get that some players have no issues with unnecessary restrictions, to the point that they have no qualms over imposing restrictions on an mode that is the favorite of many players specifically because it is unrestricted

If you want a second restricted mode, add a new mode with those restrictions…no need to destroy the freedom we have in role-less queue mode

No need to deliberately lose a ton of players who don’t wanna spam GOATs.

The devs are running a business. And if your suggestions conflict with getting the largest playerbase. Then your ideas don’t match up with their business model.
