OW2 Crash"Application encountered and unexpected error"

I have been struggling with this since launch have not been able to play. I have 2 PCs and I get the same error on both of them. For the purposes of troubleshooting I will keep this to my better and main PC.

I am running
Microsoft windows 10 pro, I7-9700 CPU @ 3.00GHz, Nvidia 2080 Super, 32g DDR4

Everytime I play one game I will either crash at game start or as soon as victory//defeat splashes the screen

the windows error code is this

  • Description
A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows.
    Faulting Application Path: E:\Overwatch_retail_\Overwatch.exe

My DXDiag is this DXDiag - Pastebin.com

I have tried every trick and every work around in all of these threads none of them work, as briefly mentioned i even tried a whole other PC. Im beyond frustrated.

Please help or send a med kit

I have also tried everything. At this point I think we are at the mercy of Blizzard releasing a patch.

Yeah it just blows. All my friends are enjoying the game and i just get off work to try work arrounds T_T

I feel that. I spent most of the day and last night trying every fix I could find lol.

Got a spare hard drive? (hour or so plus download time) = Linux is another solution
– Worked for me (went from crashing after 2.5 minutes (in menu, training, game) to no crashes at all

I tried 3 different solid states, Im not good enough with linux to try to put battle net on it. I have been tempted

The hard drive itself is not the issue (i suggest a spare hard drive so you can remove your windows one / keep it safe from any mistakes)

As for installing battle.net on Linux, its fairly easy these days (lets assume a fresh linux install was done/basic install from ISO/USB)

The following four terminal steps would install Bottles which makes it even easier to install game launchers on linux.

sudo apt update
sudo apt install flatpak
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
# PC restart required here*
flatpak install flathub com.usebottles.bottles

At this point you can open the Bottles application, add the battle.net installer and create a new Bottle with that installer/app setup.

  • Bottles List https://usebottles.com/appstore/
  • Battle.Net Listing https://usebottles.com/app/#battlenet

Either way just showing / suggesting how easy for those who have spent hours plus on this problem (always use google/double check sources)

I appreciate you I’ll try it out on my test pc.

Edit- it works no crash but runs like crud, but hey no crash.

Also blizzard responded my to my ticket saying that they’re too busy to help me

The performance might be due to a lack of drivers/wrong driver but it does indicate it’s a way to get around their crashing issue.

Depending on the distro, maybe try a kernel that’s been setup for gaming as that could be the performance issue

The one I use, https://liquorix.net

Glad to see some progress away from crashing

Just started getting this since yesterday too.

Random error code each time.

Started happening to me yesterday, too. I’m glad it’s not just me. It’s been crashing right at the end of the game today… yesterday it crashed so much i got suspended from competitive. What a mess…

I heard that turning XMP files off on ram fixes it but I want to take advantage of the faster ram speed that I paid for.

I can confirm this fixed the issue for me personally. The faster ram speeds for XMP are not that significant. At least for me I can afford to drop Ram speeds.
