OW2 120-tick servers?

Anyone know if we are going to receive an upgrade to the servers for OW2?

I feel like 120 tick rate servers would be really nice for Overwatch seeming it’s pretty fast paced with a lot of displacement/movement abilities.

Obviously also important for gunplay.

So that’s why I miss all the time!! (Its the servers right?)

Not necessarily why you miss but with thr amount of noregs in this game, 120 tick would be a massive improvement

After reverse engineering the upcoming tournament server version, I am pretty sure that they will continue to operate at 120 Hz.
The regular servers will continue to run at a maximum of 60 Hz.

That’s not quite right, it depends on why you had a no-reg in the first place.
In addition, a higher sync rate may have a negative impact on the performance of your computer or network devices, and other compensation efforts would need to be reduced or turned off. I don’t see that happening.

I think the major problem it’s latency itself and the netcode. Optimizing that would be way better than actually change the tick rate.

When you have a controlled space you can increase the tick rate, otherwise would provide more problems than improvements. Most of the playerbase would be hindered by latency and also not all of them would be “favored” to by using higher tick rate anyways.

When I get better performance on titanfall 2 community servers located in another continent, I’m going to go ahead and say its safe to assume that the no regs are an issue on blizzards end.

You’re going to have to explain that one pal. How does higher tick rate affect anything other than network performance? What compensation measures are you speaking of and why would compensation be necessary when there is less to compensate for?

I recommend reading the following article, especially the part about the tick rate:
https://www.pcgamer.com/netcode-explained/

here some more information about Overwatch Hit Prediction and what they think about your no-regs:
https://youtu.be/2Hi3GeCBpd0?t=3526 (it’s worth watching to the end)

And there’s a lot more as far as prediction goes, but it’s not very well documented, you can’t just compare two different games and say,
“120 Hz in this game will behave similarly in another game”.

ill have a read of those later but I wasn’t actually comparing the two games. I don’t know what tickrate the tf2 servers I have played on run at but I highly doubt its 120. I was making a point about how a multibillion dollar company should be embarrassed that their servers and or net code perform objectively worse than a game that literally does not have official servers anymore. if a community hosted server based in another continent offers a better experience than the official servers that such a big company uses then there needs to be work done to improve the overwatch experience. I genuinely do not care where the issue lies, be it tick rate, netcode or whatever else you want to bring up.

I also never said that 120hz in this game would behave in anyway other than objectively better than the 63hz that we currently have. not once did I compare it to another game that uses 120hz.

I doubt they will as it would almost double the CPU time the servers need
