OW1 getting deleted is dumb

Ive not seen a video game that creates a sequel and proceeds to delete their original game. Sure, support may end for the original game but deleting it is a big no. There’s people who still want to play OW1, people who dont want to play OW2, people who want to play OW2 and play OW1, and people who cannot play OW2 because of the phone problem and they may or may not have bought the Watchpoint pack. I know there’s a lot of hate/negativity going on for OW2 and it deserves it for the bad choices that are being made for this game. Especially not telling the OW community that players with certain phone plans or people with no phones at all cannot play OW2 months before the Watchpoint pack was released

Anyway let’s take Bungie’s sequel, Destiny 2 as a little example here. Destiny 2 had bad problems when it was released. Like 6v6 Crucible (the pvp) being removed and replaced with 4v4, no more random weapon rolls and everyone getting the same roll, “2 tokens and a blue”, Curse of Osiris expansion being underwhelming, and XP throttling etc. Because of these bad problems, most players went back to playing Destiny 1 until Bungie made improvements to Destiny 2 and I would say Destiny 2 made its comeback when the Forsaken expansion was released . To this day some players still hop on Destiny 1 to experience the nostalgia or play it for fun and there’s people who don’t have Destiny 2 but can play Destiny 1.

Even with the bad problems that Destiny 2 had when it was released, Bungie did not delete Destiny 1. They dont support Destiny 1 anymore but people can still play it. There are other games like COD and Halo etc that have sequel and people can still play their old games. Now with OW1 it’s being deleted and replaced with OW2. This leaves people who cannot play OW2 because of the phone problem NO WAY OF PLAYING OVERWATCH. People who don’t want to play OW2 CANNOT PLAY OW1. People who want to OW2 AND OW1 ARE FORCED TO PLAY OW2. See the problem here?

TLDR: DO NOT DELETE OW1

this entire thing is dumb

No it’s not.

Merging the games consolidates server resources, development resources, and the playerbase to keep queues short and content flowing.

Keeping them separate would be dumb.

We don’t always like patches/updates to our live service games. People didn’t like reworks, or role queue, or hero limits. Doesn’t mean we get to pick and choose which patch version we play on.

OW2 is replacing OW1 in 3 days. The end.

They were originally going to merge OW1 with OW2 and change it into the OW2 ruleset but people complained that it was dumb so here we are now

Queues are going to be long anyway because of the problems I mentioned in my post.

Most video games that ive played dont have problems with resources and pumping out content for their current games, while still keeping their old games available for those who want to play it :person_shrugging:

My queues on beta were shorter for all 3 roles than they were in live OW1. And that was a closed beta. With no new support hero in game yet.

Nothing in your post made a convincing argument about queues being long.

Too bad? Idk what to tell you?

I have a feeling the custom games matchmaker will be filled with “OW1” lobbies, tweaked to be 6v6 with changes to tanks.

Absolutely right that it’s dumb, but they want to force players into their new monetization system. They know quite a few players would never touch that trash fire past a few weeks unless they got rid of it. OW is still pulling in 9 mill players a month. Those people still play and enjoy it.

The worst part for me is that isn’t even a better game so the game that i paid for doesn’t even exist anymore.

How about you tell him nothing? If you have nothing to add, aside from inflammatory “too bad” dismissive nonsense, why add anything?

That’s because it was beta? People were hyped/trying the game out, so of course queue times would be shorter. That isn’t indicative of what they’ll be like once the game is “released.”

Really wish they kept OW1 up and as a separate game, but they probably don’t want to keep the servers of a “dead game” up

It has about 9mill players a month… 700-900k players a day. Paladins, who people like to compare it to, has less than 35k for the month and 9k a day. Game is far from dead, but it’s not anywhere near FN, Apex, etc, at 170+ mill a month.

who in oblivion told you that nonsense lol

it will be interesting to know what the disc copies of overwatch will be like.

im assuming as soon as i put my xbox copy in i will have to wait for it to update, but i dont know… dont really want to find out.

fortnite is the only game that i know of and is the biggest example of them “deleting” their current version of the game… but with fortnite they told them that they were revamping the game, and they had a huge in game event, a black hole event, and shut down the servers for 3 days. After that third day it came back up and it was honestly like a new game, but still fortnite.

OW2 has nothing to do with that… when they shut down the servers for a day… and they come back, the game is not changing… 5v5 is not revamping the game. tank doomfist is not revamping the game… changing the rank system, soft reseting SR and changing the rank medals is not revamping the game, making new rank tiers inside the ranks is not revamping the game.

Care to prove me wrong? It’s absolutely the reason they’re removing OW1. They are, by all means, releasing a glorified update and naming it Overwatch 2, while offering nothing new but a cash grab monetization system. As a matter of fact, they’re taking things away. It’s not nonsense, it’s fact. And unless you have some way of showing me that I’m actually gaining something, and not losing something, it will remain fact.

The disc should already be useless after the addition of crossplay that requires you to have blizzard account.

i think its more along the lines of… well we dont want to have a “destiny 2 style launch.” where our players are excited to get their hands on it… play it for a couple months then completely ditch it and go back to the first game.

i dont think they have a plan to somehow change it… release a massive DLC, like destiny did with forsaken. they want to make people play this new game and not go back to the old game just to say that theyre doing everything to “try and keep it fresh.”
