OW simple question

Makes sense.
This makes me feel like it truly was about cost efficiency over a greedy paradigm shift.

Well, what a sequel is, is when the first game remains and there is a second game. What an update is, is when the first game (or version) does not remain.

OW2 was just an update to OW1. They just called it 2, because it was a really big update. And caused more people to play it.

As part of ms they can afford 100k ow servers , problem with operational costs – people

It would be nice if they never placed the 2 on an update.

The game is fundamentally the same.
I thank you for this input.

They did it for marketing purposes. And it worked.

I’ve played games that have gone f2p without slapping a “2” on the game name. It’s no different, except it seems that it was a good decision to add the 2, because it added more players. Which again is why I think counter strike just did the same thing.

You can’t play cs:go anymore but you can play CS2.

Yep, no use in going over their marketing (a proven formula)

Cross consel, the release on steam, etc. There was alot going for OW2.

I do still wonder what the retention rate will be in the next 3-5 years.
How will it stand up to OW1 numbers.

I guess only time will tell.

Personally I enjoy the game, and they seem to be releasing a lot of new content, at least currently. So if they keep this up, I think player numbers will retain, if not go up.

Its cus OW2 is just OW1 with different settings. They never made a separate game, they just updated the first one with a meaningless “2”.

I dont even say OW2 i just call it overwatch.

No. They can put a separate 6v6 mode into the game. They just don’t want to do the work.

theyre pretty much doing their best to funnel players into only quick play role que and ranked role que, and still they say in a dev blog a week or two ago that pretty much all ques are still bottle necked by a lack of tanks.

they could split and maintain the support/dps community across 6v6 and 5v5, but they cant split up the tank community or else neither mode will work via endless ques.

Curious to know what their fix would be.

It was always a viable path to off tank and learn from a stronger tank however, that particular rount is off the table to individuals intimidated by tank.

Into the fryingpan is the only option.
(Not to get too far off topic) but i do really wonder how thier newest upcoming patch will shape the game with 2 tank role que.

Yeah o completely agree with you, I was just laughing at “I sense you hate OW2”
