I know the importance of sight line breaks, natural cover, and alternative routes for flanking. The problem is when certain objects pose a determent to the flow of the game. Have you ever backed up and died because you were block by something that you didn’t know even existed or tried to use a movement ability only to be stopped by something so tiny? Like climbing/riding a wall only for a tiny lip or slant in the wall stop you from escaping a bad situation? I know the answer most people say is, “Just learn the map better” but it still a problem in new maps. Little things that feel kind shoe horned in for the sake of “looking nice.” Can’t we have simple maps that aren’t filled with unnecessary objects? Sight line breaks that make sense and not ones that make it harder to just move around. I don’t get why certain objects slight jut out of walls where it doesn’t make sense. Mainly pillars that while yes they make the map look nice interrupts the flow of the match. The map designs feels so over detailed and seem more design to look nice that feel like a well made flowing area for each character.
I dont want this to be changed because the maps are absolutely beautiful but oh my god If i get caught on one more door frame…
As for all the natural cover, I’m fine with that.
If they want Overwatch to be a sport, consider this: there’s a reason there aren’t rocks and boulders on a football field.
It’s actually so annoying. Backing up and then you die because you stop moving and you’re like getting stuck on the stupidest and smallest thing.
You can have beautiful maps and make them functional.
I think the cover is good for, yknow, cover, which is helpful and reduces the need of a barrier every game(although atm you still need one). As for the lips and tiny breaks in the walls, messing up wallclimb, this is actually a huge problem with both Genji and Hanzo, the wallclimb just does not work half the time. But instead of ruining the beautiful maps, they should probably just give a QoL change to both Genji and Hanzo to make their wall climbs actually work on things that aren’t a completely flat surface.
For all annoying clutter they could have collision boxes that turn of when they are not in your field of view. Then you have the balance between you not being blocked by all the little things you can get stuck on and still not clipping through them when you see them. If that is too hard to implement I rather you could just clip through these items and details at all time then not. The amount of times you are going to see yourself clipping through is so minimal anyway that it would not really make a difference anyway, but each time you get stuck on some stupid place you remember it for quite some time.
I literally fail 50% of my couch gun jumps in King’s Row.
They have always had a character whose entire thing is riding on walls and yet they did their best to make as many walls as possible suck for wallriding.
