Overwatch’s gameplay loop is basically “hope for good teammates.” This being the case it makes alot of sense why this game isnt as fun as it use to be. yes their are skins but you dont even see them in game and they dont change the visuals of your character at all so why do they matter? Make me playing this game feel rewarding
Yup.
But they mostly fixed that for Tanks and DPS. They are very much able to clutch by themselves.
They just need to give Supports more self sufficiency.
Can you imagine the crying if they give supports self sufficiency? It would be epic. Lol
Yeah, but a lot of that would go away in a month.
The support role has a passive that causes your health bar to refill itself, while other heroes have to rely on you for healing (or go for health packs).
They’re the most self-sufficient role, and the only one that doesn’t rely on others. As a support, your team depends on you for healing, they depend on you to save them with your ult, and you don’t depend on them for anything.
Zenyatta depends on others for peel in a major dive, but the same could be said for Cassidy. That just goes with being an immobile hero.
Just to go for the most egregious examples, how can you say Lucio and Moira aren’t self-sufficient? They heal themselves, they have mobility, they can duel anyone. By what metric are they not self-sufficient?
Lucio and Moira are fine.
But I guess I’m saying other healers are gonna head in the Lucio/Moira direction.
I.e. Midcombat sustain, decent damage, and good evasion.
Can’t wait for them to start working on OW3 where they remove a support and just give all the supports guns for healing and damage
Mercy is fine too, she has a unique playstyle compared to everyone else and is definitely “self sufficient” in a unique way that ironically requires her to not be alone lol
My point is that she doesn’t need a babysitter, just people nearby so she can do her thing
If that is your gameplay loop it is because you are either not trying to improve or have reached the top of the ladder. Quite simply the core gameplay loop of OW is about learning maps and comps and how to change your play style to fit them.
this right here. In the end this is basically a new game for supports and yes that kinda sucks but the supports will end up were they need to be in comp. A lower level support will survive against a genji 20% of the time, while a good support 60% a great support 80%. Its a different more hostile game for supports but you just have to be able to use the support for more than healing which they have the kits for.
The game play loop is, select hero, fight with hero, use abilities, maybe change heroes, repeat until win or loss. That hasn’t really changed much since the start. Why do you want character modifications outside of the game in the PVP influencing the match? That is essentially another type of game, like a MMORPG.
visual changes will not hurt the pvp of this game. League of Legends has different skins making your character do different animations. It looks awesome and makes people want to have skins. it dosnt make the game any less competitive
I don’t think “hoping for good teammates” is a loop lol

My point is that she doesn’t need a babysitter, just people nearby so she can do her thing
You are reliant on people actually caring if you live or die. Being able to GA only works if the enemy can’t aim or chase after you.
Nah, Mercy can definitely outmaneuver people, you’re just not trying hard enough
I have to love the intellectual simplicity of the “No, you bad” rebuttal. Not only does it not give anything additional to the discussion, it also gives the user the feeling of superiority.
And I love not caring because I know what I’m talking about
This is the conundrum:
Overwatch suffered from teamplay being enforced, which meant that unless everyone was pulling their weight, winning a game was next to impossible.
Oppositely, Overwatch 2.0 has it where there is less team play, but now the game feels “empty” due to everyone being off doing their own thing, or too fast as everyone is grouped up and crashing into the opposition.
There needs to be a middle ground, surely. An outcome where individuals can make up for the weakest link, while also encouraging working together.
Ideally, they would have to start with making ALL heroes independent (not requiring a prerequisite or additional hero to function) while also addressing the core concerns every hero has. Afterwards, it merely becomes a matter of encouraging teamplay (not enforcing it). Naturally, synergies would be the first thing to come to mind, but then you run into the problem of having to ensure that said synergies aren’t too oppressive… Therein, lies the roadblock.
BlockquoteMy point is that she doesn’t need a babysitter, just people nearby so she can do her thing
That is NOT self sufficient tho…
It’s not in the sense that you can be alone, but I mean she doesn’t need to sit behind a shield and pray that people take care of things for her before she gets killed off
Mercy has a relatively easy time evading foes as long as she has her team somewhat nearby
