Overwatch.exe- bad image

prompt says: C:/Pogram Files (x86\Overwatch_retail_\libxess.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. I have updated all my drivers and computer updates. However this happened about a week ago. I tried reinstalling battle.net app and Overwatch 2 multiple times but it didnt help. Anything else i can try?

Are you running an unsupported version of Windows? Only 10 and 11 are supported, and no Windows Insider builds.

How do i verify? I believe its still windows 11

Control Panel should have a System option and then look at the About area. It will say Insider if it’s a Windows Insider build.

You’re probably just missing Microsoft Visual C++ and need to reinstall that. Check manually for Windows updates and look for optional ones. It should be in the list.

I just verified its not an insider program as I have yet to set that up. I couldnt locate how to reinstall microsoft visual as it wasnt part of the optional downloads.

Despite targeting the Overwatch file with the error, the issue is a corrupted or missing component of Windows itself, so there’s limited support for the situation in this forum. The last thing I can recommend is running a repair on Windows. You can also grab the Win11 install assistamt from Microsoft’s website to run the repair.

Try to uninstall Overwatch again, but after you run the uninstaller make sure you go to the Overwatch directory and remove any remaining files. The uninstaller is currently leaving behind some files and libxess.dll is one of those files left behind. Once the directory is clean run the installer again.
