I recently got a new laptop and overwatch refuses to launch on it. Whenever I try to open the game it just gives me a full screen black window where all i can see is my mouse and it will never load in and I can’t close it out without restarting my pc. This happens both on steam and on battle.net. I’ve tried updating my graphics drivers and I’ve tried resetting my in game settings neither of which work.
Yeah at least you got tht far i cant even log in
Another app is taking over the display. Common apps are:
- Razer Chroma drivers
- Antivirus suites
- Anti-cheat programs from other game companies (like Riot Vanguard)
How can I tell which app is doing this? I don’t think that I have any of the three you mentioned on my pc at the moment except for maybe my antivirus, which i tried turning off and it didn’t solve my issue
If it doesn’t have an exception built in for Overwatch, turning it off wouldn’t make a difference as they usually continue running in the background anyway.
This time I uninstalled Mcafee completely and it still doesn’t work. Is there a way I can tell which app specifically is preventing overwatch from launching?
I also made sure that overwatch was allowed through the windows firewall stuff, still isn’t working
You can run reports and make educated guesses from them.
- Review the Windows Reliability History or “Monitor” depending on Windows version.
- Check the Windows Event Viewer under Windows → system logs.
- Export both DxDiag & MSInfo to a text file to see error reporting.
A concrete answer would come from Windows memory dumps. You need a tool and knowledge to read them. Sometimes people post them in the Windows forum and volunteers there will be able to decipher them.
Ok, so i tried a different thing and it worked. What i did was I had my friend send me his settings file and i put it into my settings folder in Documents/Overwatch/settings and it just worked right away. I think the reason it worked was because it launched in windowed mode
