Overwatch wont change render resolution in "fullscreen window"

Hello there!
Like the title says…
If I run Overwatch in “fullscreen window” mode it defaults the resolution to my native display resolution and changing it doesn’t do anything.
Now normally this would not be a big problem, but my monitor is 4k monitor and I used to play on another monitor on 1200p until now.
With other games this is not a problem.
I can run the game fine +100fps on 1440p but 4k is a different story and hence why this is a problem. For now I have solved the problem by dropping my desktop resolution to 1440p. This allows me to play OW in “fullscreen windowed”
and access my two other monitors without a need to alt+tab.

Only in fullscreen mode resolution changes work as intended.
I also feel that render scale is a quite half-assed solution to this since it doesn’t let you choose a specific resolution.

Is there any better workarounds for this problem, I would really like to run my desktop in native 4k and be able to play OW in 1440p “fullscreen window” mode.

I know this has nothing to do with my PC specs, but I will list them anyways.

My specs:
i7-6700k
16gb DDR4
Asus Strix 1070Ti 8gb
250gb Samsung Evo + 3tb Toshiba P300(game directory) + 2tb WD Green

Try deleting the overwatch folder that holds your graphic settings. This folder is found in documents and is safe to delete but it holds your videos, screenshots, and graphic settings so if you want to save anything from that, move the folder somewhere else first instead of deleting. Of course do this while overwatch and bnet are closed.
location is: C:\Users\PCNAME\Documents\Overwatch
Once done you can run a scan repair on overwatch from the bnet app or test first and run a scan after if it isnt fixed. This should not have any effect on your other settings.

Hi there Kooru,

I want to make sure I fully understand what you are trying to get done here. You want to open Overwatch in Windowed border-less mode in a lower resolution than the desktop?

Not in Windowed mode, and not by lowering the render scale in the options, an actual lower resolution?

I hope to hear from you soon!

Hey Gelectrode!
Thank you kindly for your advice.
I will try what you suggested and let you know if it helped!

Hello Nathardrick,
Yeah, that is exactly what I would like to do. Since 4k is a no go for me.
I know I did not explain the problem in best possible manner, so sorry for that.

Not in windowed mode or lowering render scale(if possible). You got it completely right. Maybe this is not possible with Overwatch? Most games seem to have no problem doing so.

Hey there Kooru,

I have come back to give bad news. You are unable to change the games resolution in windowed full screen mode. The resolution of the game will match the desktop. You should be able to change the render scale in game, but this is not the same thing, it is an effective resolution vs actual resolution.

I hope this helps clear up what you can and can’t do with the game.

Actually, you’re wrong. He was asking how to fit his game to his screen. This was obviously an issue with his aspect ratio settings being at something like 16:9 when it should’ve been set to 21:9 or a ratio of that size. Hope this helps clear up what he was asking about. And probably shouldn’t tell people with expensive monitors that they are f*****. lol love you hardrick
