Overwatch VS Paladins

OK ill also ask one thing. What is this thing called game sense that we hear so many people speak of? in an OW context of cause. If you answer me this i will know how best to respond

thing is there is no way that comm wheel will ever cater to all things that a player may want to say, without actually slowing down the game. Cause really i could say that i can substitute voice comm with the text chat but am i not just wasting time not playing the game navigating menus to get to say what i want. This is why you see most games in high elo, at least the ones i watch on streams have good voice comms cause it adds to a teams effectiveness.

Oof. I was about to let this go, but it didn’t quite sit right with me.

While I still prefer Overwatch to Paladins gameplay-wise, one thing that Paladins has over Overwatch is its lore, which is 1) completely different, and 2) way more developed than Overwatch’s barebones “story.”

I’d actually recommend checking it out, it’s surprisingly well-developed for a multiplayer FPS game!

I’m interested in master Evie. Her witch skin is hot af! And what about Drogoz? Similar like Pharah.

Well yeah, but one thing to keep in mind is that League of Legends does it better.

I’ve actually never played League, but I think I sorta know the general premise! Is the lore really good? 'Cause if so, I’d actually be surprised, seeing as it’s absolutely brimming with characters!

I really like both games. I think the major difference is that OW is style over substance and Paladins is substance over style (out of necessity).

Overwatch has always felt like the devs’ approach is ‘how cool would it be to do this or play that hero?’ or ‘hey what if we put these fun voicelines/drawings in the game?’ and then designed around it. All i ever read when they talk about the early development is the characters and their abilities.

With Paladins, you actually get the sense some devs sat down and asked themselves: ‘Ok, so we want healers in the game…how do we balance it?’, ‘what’s the different ways players might want to play this hero?’ or ‘how do we make it so healing, shields, deployables, AoE dmg, or heavy CC can be countered?’

The VGS system in Smite and Paladins requires you to learn it but once you do, it’s like riding a bike and it’s immensely helpful. Plus you get to have such wonderfully passive-aggressive interactions with your teammates.

Player A dies
A: Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!
B: You’re Welcome!
A: You Rock! Cancel that!
C: Quiet!

Yeah I get this.

Frankly I would go so far as to say Overwatch’s development is shortsighted. They seem to have issues really thinking how a character will hit the rest of the cast past their intended design

Bastion 2.0 THA GAWD

Bridgette the Omni slammer

Just Doomfist

Hog 2.0

Oh, so you ‘check out’ Paladins, may i ask how many hour you spent there so far?

I dont mean to brag but i have 3000+ hours on Paladins, played it a year before i bought Overwatch (and until now sometimes), and believe me, Paladins is way worse than Overwatch.

Not really, they just got lore a few months ago, and the lore is just the red line so far. Almost half of the character didnt get touched by the lore.

objectives are still bad though. at least they share that with OW lol

i love both games and im glad what each is doing but Hirez i feel is more focused on balanced and trying weird things on the PTR to balance things metas also change more there and new characters come out faster. i’ll still play OW but i have more fun overall with paladins.

I like her Rebel skin lol She’s tough to use imho, I haven’t gotten used to her yet. Drogoz is kinda similar to Pharah in the sense they’re the “aerial bombers” of their respective games, but his AoE spit attack, combined with his Fusillade alt fire, makes him more suited for pounce attacks, whereas Pharah excels in carpet bombing and zoning type strats. At least, this has been my personal expereience with each character.

I play Paladins and Overwatch alot and I have to say that Overwatch does some things better then Paladins and Paladins does some things better then Overwatch. For example, one thing I’ve wanted for a while is (my best example is Genji) when characters have skins that change their weapons light color, make the trail the same color of the light. You could say “Oh this would confuse people if they saw blue Genji projectiles around the map” but the way Paladins does it is that they make it so only you the player sees the color change.

Idk I play paladins once in a while and I don’t think it’s bad at all. It’s good for a ftp game but I always go back to OW cause it’s simply more polished.

All the self healing in paladins is actually annoying.
When everyone have cauterize maxed it’s actually annoying to play as support.
And I thought banning wasn’t a bad idea until I went into a comp match and literally all the heroes I play (and there’s actually quite a few in paladins) got banned/picked or someone told me they don’t want me to play a said hero. Banning sounds good until you are in a situation where you are playing the hero you hate the most.

I honestly do agree. A few months ago I tried out paladins thinking it was stupid. But honestly in the few months I have spent playing paladins, I have had more fun then I ever had in Overwatch.
I really like how you get rewarded every day just for logging in. Also you may be like “Well you have to buy characters in paladins in order to play as them” Which yes you do, but you buy them using IN GAME CURRENCY. You can buy all the champions with real money but it is completely optional.
Also every week they have 3 random champions that you can play as even if you have not unlocked them. But more than that it’s the sense of accomplishment that you get when you finally get that one champion that you have been wanting for a long time.
Also in paladins, you can change your character skin, AND your weapon skin. Like if I want to use a really cool skin but I also want to use the default gun design, then I can do that. Also the other thing is, Paladins is free. Completely free, whereas with Overwatch you have to pay like $40-$60 for what? A couple of gamemodes that all boil down to the same thing after a while, and the occasional event.
Also, paladins has 36 playable characters and another coming very soon. Overwatch has 27 playable characters and alot of them are unbalanced and not fun to play as.
In Paladins almost all of the heroes are really fun to play as, and none of them are op or unbalanced. Also it’s just the simple fact that since In the about 6 months that we got Moira and Brigitte, Paladins has gotten almost 3 new characters and they are all super fun and really unique.
Also I am honestly just blown away from how much I enjoyed Paladins. I seriously recommend giving it a try right now, you will not be disapointed.

That’s why just like in this game it’s best to specialize in many heroes in different rosters.

I know how to play half the roster in paladins. Doesn’t mean I still didn’t end up playing a hero I hate. What am I suppose to play literally everything at my best? I’d rather not.

WOw I’m astonished by your list. I thought the same as you. I didn’t even give Paladins the time of day to look at. But I haven’t played Overwatch in months now and after reading your list I’m really surprised by the things you mentioned that would seem like obvious necessities for a game like Overwatch. It’s not even like they would be hard to implement. Yet Overwatch is stuck tweaking characters ever couple weeks and consider themselves competitively on par with professional sports when their game still has bugs and no regs during their OWL games! How can they justify giving out cash prizes to teams when there is a possibility that their own game breaks the rules giving a random advantage and disadvantage to competitive players.

I hear ya, but I’m just saying it’s better to be familiar with other champions just in case one of them get ban in comp. That’s what I was on about.
