after this latest update the in game name in text chat is my steam username and not my battle.net username… i tried to log in and out and its still the same name as my steam name only in the in game txt chat and not anywhere else ppl can still add me with my battle.net name

Yea, I’ve been having the same problem too - When I say anything in chat, it’s what my Steam nickname is, but on my game profile in-game it still shows the name I have set for Blizzard?? It might be the new update causing some sort of problem, or that’s just how they’re doing it now.

I’ve seen it’s clientside only, like streamer mode.

I have this issue too. Really confusing. I would prefer it to use my BNet name as that is everywhere in-game.
Same issue here looks like its affecting everyone. Good to know it shows my game name to everyone else and only i see the steam name
That’s not true. I see “[[unknown]]” in chat with profiles that show they are using Steam.
It seems that with friends it shows your blizzard name but with strangers it says unknown. Imma try to change my steam name to match my blizzard to see if that changes anything

That’s also not true. I am occasionally seeing players with names with spaces in them because that is their Steam name, and I am not friends with them. Battle.net names can’t have spaces. “[unknown]” probably just means the chat engine can’t show whatever character is in their name due to some encoding in their steam name which normally could not be entered in a battle.net display name.
I also have this issue. When I type in chat my steam name appears even after the February 21 patch. I do not prefer to have this name publicly shown in Overwatch, it’s not the name I provided to the game or to BattleNet. Feels like a data breach to me…
ive been having the same issue, when i type in chat it says my steam user name and then
