Overwatch Tournament

I recently had a thought about a monthly Overwatch Tournament for all ranks and all platforms based off the tournaments run by Fortnite

It would run like this:
Bronze / Silver / Gold has a $300 USD 1st place prize pool
Plat / Master / Grandmaster $600 USD 1st place prize pool
You have 10 games over a 5 hour period

Each platform would play together as no cross-play is yet available in Overwatch.

Points would be based on perfomance in game (eg 20,000 damage blocked per 10) and how many games you win. You would have to play with the same six players all ten games. And you only qualify for the region that the party / group leader is in. Eg Asian player playing with NA players is only eligible in NA region. You may only queue in Competitive and you can only play with people at your rank. If a player is banned midway through the game. The game will be left void and nothing is counted. Eg you play your ninth game and someone is banned / quits, the game is discontinued and you still have to play your ninth game

I calculated the costs of this and it would cost $32400 USD per month and
$388,800 per year.

I’m unsure about how the winners would be announced or how money would be dealt with and things can be changed. I think this is a really good idea and would bring more popularity to OWL and to the game. Share this post with others, spread the word if you think this is a good idea. It’s the only way Blizzard’s going to find out.

Edit: After some talking with the people of the Dallas Fuel discord server, I have decided that the games should be spread out throughout the month. Eg You have 5 games in one week and another 5 a week or two later

Thanks

It kinda sounds like normal competitive mode but real prizes instead of comp points for winning

Kinda, as I said I think it would still be a fun / good thing to do for the community

It would be nice if Blizzard would make an attempt at making their esport scene more approachable. Either by directly holding and funding tournaments with prize pools or by making funds readily available for third party sources to hold larger tournaments to grow it back organically. It’s honestly not too late to undo the damage the OWL caused to the scene.

Doesn’t seem like they’re interested though. You can’t even make a decent payout in contenders which is the direct runner-up to the Overwatch League, and if you do, you probably won’t get it for a long time.
